TheHeartSmasher has good advice. You must check the requirements on the monitor for data input. I have a 27" monitor/TV I use on one computer and it is 720p for a TV signal. However, the DVI input wants a 1280x768 resolution from the video card and that's what it needs to be set to accept.
Check the manual to find the listed resolutions for connection to a PC. Also, make sure that your video card's timing is set to match the TV/Monitor. It's typically 60Hz for US LCDs.
Here's my BF2 shortcut parameters for that computer:
You will probably be able to run at a much higher resolution with a modern display -- mine is over a year old now.
