You will want to set the resolution to the resolution of your TV which should be 1280x720 or 1920x1080 if it is an HDTV.

TheHeartSmasher has good advice. You must check the requirements on the monitor for data input. I have a 27" monitor/TV I use on one computer and it is 720p for a TV signal. However, the DVI input wants a 1280x768 resolution from the video card and that's what it needs to be set to accept.

Check the manual to find the listed resolutions for connection to a PC. Also, make sure that your video card's timing is set to match the TV/Monitor. It's typically 60Hz for US LCDs.

Here's my BF2 shortcut parameters for that computer:

C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 768 +restart 1

You will probably be able to run at a much higher resolution with a modern display -- mine is over a year old now.

I had that problem but it was because i need to update my driver....but i dont know ur specs so try updationg youre driver

I also had some troubles when trying BF2 on my 42" plasma for the first time.

What you have to do, is to consult your TV's manual, and find which resolution rates it accepts from the HDMI / VGA port (which one are you using?).

When you find that, use the 'shortcut trick' mentioned by other people here, and set the resolution in your shortcut according to your TV manual.

Now, when that is done, go to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles. Go through the directories here, and find the 'video.con' file(s). Edit them like this:
1. Find the line in the file that denotes the resolution.
2. Make BF2 ignore this line, by putting the word 'rem' (without the quotation marks) and a space in front of the line.

After this, go to your graphic cards' control panel (not Windows Control Panel!), and go to the "Multiple Monitors" tab (it could have a slightly different name in your control panel). Make sure it's set to only use one monitor.

Now, try to start BF again.
