Hacker?

This was a first for me, but has anyone else seen someone hack the vehicles attributes?

There was a guy in a server I was playing on tonight driving around in an APC at twice the normal speed, dealing twice as much damage and continuously targeting me through buildings and scenery. (I was in a tank with the missile lock buzzer constantly sounding)

He was actually able to kill a healthy tank in around 3-4 shots.

Also, at the top of the screen was the text "fox807 gave up administrator rights". This just kept scrolling continuously.

He appears to have created a new account/had his stats wiped before too:

Well, it's hacked the server since all those attributes are held server side. He's found a weakness in either BF2CC or the actual game server.

The "...given up admin rights" confirms this. Get any SS's?

Yup, he's found a weakness in the server. You'll just have to report it to EA.

3-4 shots on a healthy tank is possible at any time fella. It's possible to take one out in 2 shots if you know how!

Its possibel to take a healthy tank out in 1 shot if you know how.

You can do it with both another tank and a sraw, both methods work just as well.

The OP is saying that someone had hacked server side which enabled them to change vehicle attributes such as speed, power etc...

Can you imagine what the game will be like after they start changing the splash radius to encompass the entire map?

Also, if the server was hacked in such a manner, wouldn't APCs of the same team be enhanced as well? Hmmm... I guess if he added a modded .con/.tweak, modded the map to load the new .con, and implemented a vehicle spawner of some sort he could have the only one. Interesting. It seems like some of that would have to be client-side though, I'm not sure.

It cannot be client side as changing speed vehicle speeds would only change on your screen and then when the server updates your position (like every 0.5 seconds) your position would be reset. So, all you'd have is a bad lag on your side.

So, he must have done something server side, also the "Fox gave up admin rights" scrolling message in the corner also shows foul play server side.

Probably not. It probably targeted data to and from the selected player.

I wonder if he physically sent a file or something to the server in order to do this, such as a Trojan.

Thankfully the server seems to be back to normal although a lot of aimbot players are getting kicked now. Looks like security has been beefed up slightly. :thumbsup:
