    BF2142 Mac 1.50 Patch Released!

So for any other mac users out there, EA just released the 1.50 patch for the rest of us. The download links are terribly slow, probably tons of downloads, so I'm putting it up on my server as well.

    BF2142 Mac 1.50 Patch: http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefiel...&storyid=24789

Here is the link on my personal server. http://www.stupidsucks.com/downloads...1A-to-1512.zip

The EA download didn't want to pass 150Kb/s download, that's just too slow. My server was doing 300Kb/s+ when I did a test download.

I plan on going Mac in a couple of years anyway as the Macs seem to be of better quality. I wonder if the Macs play on the same servers as PC's.

Better quality will also mean you'll pay more.

For gaming, nothing beats building your own computer in value.

I have heard great things about Apple's build quality and my i pod touch is a good example of how good Apple products are. I am not into building my own, and the price I pay for an Apple will be well worth it. I am tired of being my own IT and spending hundreds on additional programs to keep viruses out and other stuff you have to do to keep Windows alive. I have no interest in Vista and XP will soon be dead as far as support goes, so Apple is looking pretty good.

@Furry Bird Yes, the mac side of bf does play with the pc side. All same servers. BUT when the servers update the patches and that stuff, you can't play on it unless you have updated as well. Since EA takes forever to release the same patches for mac, then mac users get left behind for awhile. It sucks.

Also, OSX rocks. Win XP and Vista don't even compare. Once you're on OSX you'll never want to go back, lol.

@Wizrdwarts Mac's do cost more but I do think they are higher quality than most other pre-built systems out there. My iMac has impressed me left and right and I don't regret spending the money on it at all.

When it comes to gaming though, you are right. Best way to go for a gaming rig is building it yourself.

I like the idea of a warranty, but Apples are very reliable so I most likely won't need that.
I am getting swayed from the PC side to the Mac side. I have read so many nightmare stories about Vista, that has a lot to do with my choice, XP works well but Microshaft wants to kill it.

People who complain about Vista don't know how to use a computer.

Oh ****, I just spilled my vodka! Now, should I slurp it off the desk or just mop it up?

Yeah, you shouldn't need exceptional skills just to use the computer, computers should be easy to use.

Not to get too onside with Microshaft I have to say Vista is easy to use, reliable and looks quite good. The only negatives I have for it - bloated, too much integration with Microshaft crap like media player and live etc, fit and finish is not up to Apple standards.

Honestly, the deal breaker between Apple and me is their pricing. I want a general purpose home computer with gaming capability, but Apple products simply don't cut. They charge too high. OS X has too limited support on hardware.

However, I did some surfing on MacBook and found MacBook 13.3" is actually very well priced compared to Windows-based counterparts. But, for gaming, it's really a bad idea to leave Windows. The reason? XBOX 360. Game developers can change codes for XBOX360 to Windows in merely a week. It means as long as Microsoft is in gaming console business, there will be big title Windows game. Mac? Not so much. Not with $2299. Mac Pro is essentially the same to cheap 1U/2U virtulization servers sold by HP and Dell. Not a good gaming option, and guess why they need to build a desktop as virtulization server in the first place.

Unfortunately, it still takes some skill to use mac, despite what Apple want consumers to believe. It isn't any safer than Vista, and it isn't any stable than XP. The only thing that OS X is definately better is its interface and design, but other than that, it's a lot of hype. A lot of people who bought mac and still run a XP machine, than bragging about how they'd love the new machine and all of us hardcore none mac users should follow as well. Sorry, why do they still run XP in the first place?

Think very careful before you buy a mac. What is the purpose of buying a mac? For general purpose daily use, it's fine to get iMac or Macbook. For gaming? Not a good idea. Mac Pro? You don't need that kind of performance. No matter what people say, virtulization is never a good idea in terms of raw performance and user friendly.

apple makes quality products while microsoft makes its market on programs that needs windows to work.

IMO, macs good, but they dont cut it for me.
theres little/no gaming, very few programs work with it, and they are really only good for musicians and the like.
                          but for the gamer:

I don't understand the statement that macs are better for video, photo, and music editing. I do all of those on my PC better than when I used to have to use the macs at school. The only reason professionals use macs so much is because artistic people are naturally drawn to the pretty interface. Then they try to justify why their macs are so much better.

I'd rather be the banal businessman who gets the job done than the "cool" emo kid who overpaid for the "user-friendly" hardware/software bundle.

Re: BF2142 Mac 1.50 Patch Released!

Somewhere back in the annals of computer history, Macs became associated with graphic design and music production. This association persists although I have used both Mac and PC for graphics and even done user support for both platforms.

Anything a Mac can do the PC can do just as well. The Mac interface looks good but then so does Vista Aero. The MAC interface is not more user friendly and the missing RMB is a pain in the ***. If your used to Windows doing something simple like looking at a files properties can be a pain unless you know the specific keyboard shortcut for the Mac.

At a company I worked for the design department had a suite of Macs that the IT support guys had no clue about. If there was a problem they had to go to an external company to sort them. The design department insisted that only graphic files saved from Macs could be sent to the print houses. What a load of bollocks.

Where the Mac wins hands down is the sophistication of its hardware aesthetics. The design of the iMac etc is way ahead of the PC. That's what happens when the designer can specify the exact hardware that is going to be employed in the machine. The modular/upgradeable nature of PCs means their design is bound to look 'thrown together'
