MAC's aren't made for gaming. If you plan on just doing movie editing and such MAC might be a good choice but if you plan on playing any game what so ever a MAC is not recommended.

If I'd buy a MAC for $1000 I could get a better PC for $500.

Nothing wrong with Vista btw. I don't know where all the Vista haters come from, most of it is just bad rumours.

lol, the never ending argument! I must say, at least it's not a massive flamewar :)

Ok guys, I HAVE to put in my 2 cents k. I was a hardcore windows guy, overclocking everything, gamer, etc. It was great! Then one day I started a graphic design job and had to use a mac (oh sh*t!). I hated it at first, then once I caught on to the "mac way" I loved it. Since then, I have never looked back.

Mac's are not gaming computers but they are definitely getting closer each day.

@messfeeder No, professionals use mac's because of the OS. The workflow on a mac is much faster than PC (I would know I used both). That is just the first reason too, Pro's use them for a reason, they are simply better for what they are doing.

@AvalancheDiode Actually, OSX is a lot safer than both XP and Vista. That is because of how the OS is built from the bottom to the top. OSX doesn't have the OS built around a browser and is built on Unix. Not saying OSX doesn't have it's flaws but compared to windows it would look that way.

Oh and we run XP because Microsoft bent on world domination and we have to so that we can use the crappy software Mac users know shouldn't exist. I have to do browser testing so that's the only reason I use Windows still.

@TropperJac It's a pain in the arse for you because you are over complicating everything. That's the windows way. Mac is actually very very simple, but coming from windows it does take some getting used to.

Oh, and that IT department you were talking about was a bunch of idiots.

@hooahguy I think you should think about it from a different perspective.

When you need a computer, get a Mac.
When you want to play games, get a console.

I don't know who said it but limited software on a mac is a joke. I have more software on my mac that was free than any Windows computer I owned. I can actually do more on my Mac because of the built in features in OSX and the software that's available for OSX.

Anyway, I love reading these threads any more because all the PC guys against Mac remind me of myself back in the day. Now I dread the thought of having to use Windows as my primary computing platform.

Oh, about the cost of Macs...yes, overpriced. But an artists painting is just an overpriced piece of canvas, no? Macs look great, they run great, and they use OSX. I didn't want to spend the money I did on my iMac but now I would buy a Mac pro if I had the money. Just don't buy RAM from Apple, that's one place they rape you!

This argument has swayed me to want a Mac even more as they are easier to use, more reliable, better OS. The only reason gaming isn't popular on them is Apple hasn't made it a big priority. If Apple ever did make it a priority, the PC market would have more competition to worry about. The Macs are great for any graphics related stuff. Mack don't have the Virus problems that plague PC's. I run Nod 32 on my PC and that thing updates sometimes 3 times a day. I can't wait to get a Mac as I have had PC's for many years with much money spent and aggravation, it's time to switch.

Well, I'm not an computer security expert, but what you posted contradicted every security review that I've read about Vista vs OS X. The most critical problem to Windows security is ignorant users, not the system itself. Also, XP and Vista is not built around browser. Actually, the whole windows shell is a huge VB script machine since probably Windows 98 (now with another layer of C# and .NET). The current Windows kernel is very good, but M$ just screwed things up like always. OS X is yet another UNIX that is based on a shell running some thing like Apple script (IIRC). Believe or not, the next major out break of virus/trojan infection is most likely to be among macs.

So far I've heard that Ubuntu defeats everybody in security. However, I don't think they support as much service that open to attack as well.

Anything that is popular will be targeted. As macs gain in popularity, they will get more viruses. Same with other OS's.

I don't hate macs. I mostly hate mac fanboys because I feel like they buy macs because they are trendy. They are the same people who dress emo, wear a fauxhawk, drive a scion, drink starbucks, and wear abercrombie cologne. Dear fanboys: I don't care how much you are in love with your mac. I paid less for my PC that does what I need it to and it does it well. I'm not paying a premium price for my computer to be encased with shiny white plastic. (PS the last mac fanboy who bagged on me for owning a PC had his mac break on him in front of me.)

lol, well, I may be a fan of mac's but I'm definitely no fanboy as defined by messfeeder. I thought this was interesting too: http://gizmodo.com/5034839/windows-v...ant-be-stopped

Oh and for the guy who's mac broke in front of you, is that supposed to be a big deal? Computers break, it's the way of technology. But I can't even begin to describe how many windows computers have spectacularly failed in front of me.

Funny thing is, I do the tech support for my friends and family (pc & mac) and over the last 3 years I've gotten most of them to switch to mac. Now I hardly ever hear from them. I think most of that is because mac's make it easy for people who aren't very good with technology considering most windows systems I've owned never really had problems until someone else started using them. But, I sure haven't had any performance problems on my mac like windows experiences over time.

first of all. OS are dieng. OS are only needed for single core pc's. if you have a multi core pc you could make windows (old term, this is for pre OS systems.). the main task of a OS is task distributing. anyone remember the war between american and europe windows? europe windows had a principe wich survived as it used to be the best one, but only for single core pcs(or macs). if you have multi core pcs the american principe is better.

the europe principe was to put processes in a buffer if it has to print etc as it took a lot of time. in that time other threads could run and finish their task or start with a new one.

the american principe was that you had to run on thread at a time. after that thread was finished you could start another one. the main plusses are
1 you dont need a os
2 way more faster execution of software
3 you could run as much software as you wished, if you had enough processors. you could made specialized hardware(like a grafics card but then e.g. for speedsheats) and make it run extremely quick.
but the american had one problem. you can run as much software as you wish but only if you have enough processors. if you only have one processor you could only run one thread at a time. now we have more processors we can run multiple threads.
Be honest, how much needed threads do you have if you would count the entire OS as one thread? i bet not much. maybe 10 to 15? we are going to have a lot more processors in the future and even in the near future we are going to have 16 processors.
the european principe makes you run "unlimited" threads but requires more ram cpu power and hdd space.

now about xp vista and mac. first of all
mac sux. i know people who have a mac and they complain about bad software. ofcourse every system has some good software but mac does nowhere comes near any pc software in quality. especially when you make your own software xp/vista owns. mac has virusses. my school chose for the macs because they were promissed a virus free system, that was safe, stable and quick. not one of these things have been gotten. in one year we've only got half a year of stable acces to the network because it was bombarded by mac virusses. secondly there was no good antivirus software. they tried it from several companies and they had to rebuild the entire network as they destroyd the main network pc and all own pcs. xp and vista have more virusses but at least we have protection that doesnt destroys our pcs.

now about vista vs xp. i think xp is better as i dont have any problems with my OS. only some faulty hardware but that is the hardware and not OS. my aunt has vista because it was ordered for her organisation. now she cannot do her administator works and need to do everything with an old pc with xp. just because vista blocks every attempt to become administator or run software as admin.

Have you even graduated 8th grade yet? Your grammar and spelling is beyond appalling.
As far as software on mac vs windows, LOL. That is one of the most ignorant statements I've heard in a long time. Many of the applications on a Mac are nearly identical to Windows these days. You must be referring to the older generation of macs, in which case you shouldn't be comparing those to today's generation of pc's.

As far as viruses go, I challenge you to send me a virus or just find one for me. I'm not saying they don't exist but what I am saying is that you are making false claims. On today's generation of mac's, viruses aren't yet an issue. http://antivirus.about.com/od/macint..._Resources.htm They exist, but are rare and once discovered they are generally taken care of quickly by apple (a benefit of a closed platform).

As far as your book about OS's, I think you should take some programming classes.

and yes i have programming classes and i know from a lot of mac users(both new and old versions) that they have some virusses and that mac have huge problems. if they have a virus they had to reinstal their pc.

oh if you have questions about my doings all day. it is programming and i rarely call any system rotines but program them themself. only loading and writing atm and process control is in hand of the system. but when i finnish my own project for reading and writing files even that isnt controlled by the system but with my software.

and i didn't came up with the idea of the end of OSses but i read an article in a maggazine about it.

The only reason there are less viruses for the Mac is because it is a much less widespread operating system. Designers design for the 90th percentile. Install Vista 64 and you'll find viruses are a very rare thing also. I never use virus software on my system anyhow and don't have any problems. The anti-virus industry is a prime example of fear marketing.

I always assumed Sempf was foreign. I also think the term Dyslexia is banded about too much these days. I think the real reason that bad grammar and spelling are so widespread nowadays is because people don't read books anymore.
