How can i load a map faster?

I have Team Fortress 2, but the maps load so slow.
I have 1 GB RAM

Is there any way to make the maps load faster? Because when i got TF2 and loaded it for the first time it was quite fast, so it just got downhill from there.

When i installed TF2 i located everything on my D drive that isn't as full as my C as i still have 12 GB free on my D drive.
Some people suggested to defrag my harddrive, but will that make THAT much of a difference?

I used all the opening thingies where you put the RAM in. I really think it's time for a new computer.

EDIT: It's not really the map, but the part Retreiving Server info takes really long. That's the only part where my game really takes 30 seconds to load that part.

Well, i'll first try a defrag and if that doesn't really make a difference i'll need to buy a new comp :p

I load as slow as hell - but I still beat 99% of the other people.

TF2 just loads slow, deal with it.

OK OK I didn't knew that TF2 just loads slow for everyone, i just bought this game 2 weeks ago.

Main reason i posted this thread is that on Payload maps, the PL has almost reached the cap 2 at stage 1 when i finally join the battle.

Pentium 4 2.94 GHz
1 GB RAM
6600 GT

And i play the game at higher settings, but that didn't seem to make any difference in the beginning. It's the Retrieving Server Info part that goes very slow of the entire loading process, but that isn't the fault of my higher setting is it?

I don't know about loading times, but when I reduced some of the recommending settings, I gained about 20-30 FPS. You might want to take a look at that, since you too don't have a powerful video card, like myself.

I don't check on my FPS, but i've been in some battles and from what i could see there wasn't a really low FPS rate, must have been around 30 which is fine for me.

But i'm sure my high settings can't be the problem of that my computer struggles at the Retrieving Server Info part. Because i compensated some of my high settings by turning lowering and turning off a few settings.
