What you're doing is focusing on a couple specific things, which I've seen many people do in the SC vs HC debate. Again, HC isn't perfect, but it is closer to realism than SC.

To make a counterpoint, however, if you get shot in the foot/leg, you no longer have use of that foot/leg. On the battlefield, that often means you're dead (either from blood loss or from more enemy fire because you might not get to cover). Because COD4 has no medic/rescue system, dying from a shot to the leg in HC isn't that far from the truth.

It's not about which is better...HC and SC (and OldSchool) are simply different, and they appeal to different players.

I just pick a server and whichever mode it's playing I'll play. I don't care if it's hardcore or softcore :)

          :p jking

Playing both is fun as it is one other way to make playing this game not get tedious, freshens things up.

Its 50/50, almost the same as last time. Make your server what the majority of your clan wants. Or change it every week

Non hardcore? I like how softcore is associated as a negative aspect to cod4. Might as well call it Anti-Hardcore.

                    Softcore all the way!

                        Re: Hardcore? or Non

I play 99% hardcore. I will play a softcore game every once in awhile when I want to run around a lot.

Now there is something I'd like to bring up, earlier in the thread someone said:

"IW balanced the game for softcore, hardcore seems like something added towards the end of development that they didn't have time to balance."
                        and
"IW designed the game around "Softcore" (regular) mode, including weapon/perk balance."

I strongly disagree with these statements that make hardcore seem unbalanced.
I feel that hardcore is very balanced, just not in the way the softcore players see it. The only thing in hardcore that is not balanced are the shotguns, their range drop and super high damage makes them useless in hardcore (not that you cant ruin with them on some maps)

So here's what makes hardcore balanced; all the guns in the game kill in 1-2 shots. Head shots are always a 1 shot kill, and limb shots are most of the time 2 shot kills with a large selection of guns, but there are exceptions. This is where the rest of the game (perks and attachments) comes into balance.

Depending on your perk setup, gun choice, and attachment choice you can make your gun kill in 1 shot or 2. The best example for this is the well rounded AK47. I'll list various setups for the AK and how many shots it takes to kill.

                        AK (no stopping power)
body hits - 1 shot kills
limb hits - 2 shot kills

                        AK vs Juggernaut
                        body hits - 2 shot
                        limb hits - 2 shot

                        AK+Stopping Power
                        body hits - 1 shot
                        limb hits - 1 shot

                        AK+Stopping Power+Silencer
                        body hits - 1 shot
                        limb hits - 2

                        AK+Stopping Power VS Juggernaut
                        body hits - 1
                        limb hits - 2

                        AK+Silencer
                        body hits - 2
                        limb hits -2

                        AK+Silencer VS Juggernaut
                        body hits - 2
                        limb hits - 3

As you can see by this, the silencer reduces the damage enough to bump the AK from a 1 shot kill weapon to a 2 shot kill weapon. Shooting someone with juggernaut means you have to hit them +1 times in hardcore. So Juggernaut is still a very valuable perk in hardcore. Stopping power is the counter to Juggernaut as they cancel each other out. Stopping power is a valued perk in hardcore since the added damage can be the difference between a 1 shot limb kill or not. The rest of tier 2 perks still have their full use, uav jammer, double tap, sleight of hand, all are still extremely useful, especially if you have a gun that shoots fast or has a 1 shot kill already. Balance of not just the guns, but perks and attachments like this is the reason I play hardcore.

The most common gun to see in hardcore is the m4, by far. This is because it has a very high rate of fire, easy to control recoil and a decently accurate hip fire. This gun is used a lot because you can hold the mouse button down and spray over an area and get kills. The downside to this weapon is no matter what perks or attachments you choose for it, its going to be 2-3 shots to kill. Thats not a problem with its high rate of fire, but you still have to hit your target twice. This is what makes the m4 balanced, every other assault rifle can kill in a single shot. If it comes down to both assault rifle users shooting and hitting each other at the same time, the person with the m4 dies, and the winner is the one with the deadlier weapon.

So what are the deadlier weapons? and what are the 2 shot kill weapons?
                        Pistols: USP/M9/1911+silencer are 2
                        1911+stopping power/deagle are 1

SMGs: all are 2 shot kills with or without stopping power and or silencer

Assault rifles: m4/g36c 2 shot kills
                        everything else 1 shot kills

                        LMGs: All 1 shot kills

                        Snipers: all 1 shot kills

                        Shotguns: all 1 shot kills

So why the hell use SMGs when you can use a m4 and shoot faster? Well if you have your smg out, and are looking down the ironsights you can walk pretty damn fast and still shoot down your ironsights, not to mention you make NO footsteps when you do this (free dead silence) Making the SMGs a lighter, more mobile weapon for attacking defenders (campers) and freeing up your tier 3 perk for something useful, while still having the ability to be quiet.

Since there are so many 1 shot kill guns, it really boils down to aiming. Yes aiming is still a large part of softcore, even as you spray bullets from your gun you've got to aim, but your still spraying. In hardcore you'll find aiming even more crucial since you'll be able to kill someone who sprays 90% of the time with a single well placed shot. Hardcore: Aim > Spray, Softcore: Spray > Aim

                          Re: Hardcore? or Non

Sorry to dissappoint, but your logic makes little sense.

CoD4 already requires little aiming, but requiring only 1-2 shots to kill on every gun makes spraying all the more effective. All it means is that if you get the drop on the enemy - no matter what your skill level - you'll kill them.
REGULAR requires better aiming because you need to hit the target multiple times to take them down - you can't be as effective just spraying. :dead:

There is SO much less spraying in regular than there is in hardcore. I could never walk in to a regular server and just start RPD spraying through walls and be as succesful as I could if I were to have connected to a hardcore server.

As Key pointed out, there's a common misconception among players, and that is:

The term hardcore does not mean the gameplay is "harder" - infact it's quite the opposite.

**Honestly, only in HC can you run around with a USP/silencer (against good players) and still have a chance. So, at risk of beginning to quote and pick apart your post bit by bit, I'll stop ranting - but please, don't even start with saying HC actually requires you to aim more than regular.

Oh I'm afraid it boils down to the complete opposite: Since most weapons are a one shot kill you barely need to aim. People that wouldn't get a single kill in softcore only needs to keep his target is his crosshairs for a fraction of a second to get that kill.

And how could you possibly say that the sprayer wins against the one that aims in softcore? Aim always wins over spray no matter the game mode.

I'm fine with if you like weapons to do a lot of damage but with cod4's wallspam and accurate spraying it doesn't work in my and many other people's opinions.

The harsh truth is that softcore players eat hardcore players for breakfast
