Do you have to pay for xbox live?

Is there any point of plugging your xbox into your network if you do not pay for xbox live? For example, can you update a game without xbox live?

You get a free silver account, which enables you to get the updates for games, any free content + demos (a few days after the Gold members get access to it tho).

I look at it this way, a Gold account is roughly the price of a game here, so that's one less game I buy myself in a year (I buy it in 12 month blocks, rather than monthly).

Yeah. I just used up my free trial thing for XBL Gold. Ive currently only got silver and its annoying i cant play online and stuff. I will upgrade back to Gold soon!

well look at it this way, its about £3.33 a month so its not exactly expensive

360's come with free Silver that enables the dashboard to connect to the internet and allows game and console updates. The original xbox does not have silver access and you must pay to get any access.

you need gold to play online.. Silver allows u the use of msn, free downloads including updates.. and the xbox friends list.
