yup most people will buy consoles for their simplicity and cost, they begin to cost more and get complicated and people start to wonder

this would all be fine if IT education was better dammit

but there is still PLENTY of money in pc gaming, you think of how Blizzard makes between 800 million - 1 billion US dollars per year on WoW subscription fees alone

like Dairuka said PC gaming sort of grew out of a niche market and is to a certain degree a mainstream platform, but consoles sort of took mainstream to the next level

the indy games are great, because nowadays you can do so much more but that doesn't mean that big budget titles are bad when they are done properly

and I mean as in properly where the publisher doesn't **** things up, look what GSC has done with Stalker and what they will do with Clear Sky

PC Gaming will NEVER be in trouble and tbh never has been (imo), it has so many things going for it

You know. Independent developers make a lot of money when they don't have failure publishers like THQ eating up their profits. Tilted Mill is reporting huge wads of cash from it's recent Steam released Special Edition of a game that had originally been out for four years under the same name to a bad publisher.

I think EA, THQ, Activision and the other Publishing Gurus are afraid of online distribution because it makes them less important.

indeed, Valve had that huge scrap with Vivendi was it? Their previous publishers because they had no rights to the profits generated on steam

publishers become less and less important, they are still needed for retail perhaps but the crap that EA pull for a start should become a thing of the past

I think imho that there should be more new game devs/publishers starting businesses.

I am just going to stick with the Cycle tactic, Consoles are great now, in a matter of time PC will rise again and the consoles we have now will begin to cough and MS, Sony and Nintendo will make a Next Gen console once again.

PC's have never been dominant over Consoles - not even in the days of Atari 2600.

Of course, thats because PC's have primarily been for work purposes - and gaming has been nothing more than a niche.

Never? I grow up which C64 -> Amiga -> 486, all which may be called "Personal Computers" if not all IBM compatible. And I hardly ever saw a console, while these computers were everywhere.

Where I live, the consoles didn't really gain a foothold before the PS2.

Meh in my opinion Gaming is better practiced on the PC.

When the Commodore 64 was around, the Atari 2600 ruled North America.

Europe was always very slow when it came to gaming.

Please also note that this was long before Consoles were mainstream themselves.
