SpecOps forces have stopped using it as much as they used to. It's simply not powerful enough for frontline combat as it does not have the desired range or stopping power. It's great for guard duty and urban missions, but it is rapidly falling out of favor as a combat rifle.

The guys want 7.62 stopping power... because it gives them range and fewer rounds are needed to drop the enemy. The 5.56 ball ammo just does not have enough "umph" for the modern battlefield...

Believe what you will. I'll take personal experience and the word of my buddies in-service over Google and Wikipedia any day. :salute:
Thank you! The M16 remains the standard-issue, for all those people who said otherwise (no-offense)

Well hero.....being that I am a CPT in the Army, here's the deal. The M4 is the standard issue for all infantry and manuver forces in the US Army. The M16 is religated to a very small amount of support units i.e. finance, AG, JAG. Not sure who you are talking to, but the Army made the M4 the standard weapon back in 1999. Just so you are squared away for the next guy who asks.

Gotta back up Sonic here,I was reading on Yahoo how most soldiers aren't happy with the 5.56 round, saying when you have extremists jacked up on drugs they can absorb the 5.56 like nothing.

That's still a work in progress. There's a whole discussion on 3D ironsights here:
          http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f18-...on-sights.html
That looks awesome. I only play insurgency maos (more action, less hiking) and adding 3D ironsights just to the Aks would already be kick-***.

I believe what people disagree about is whether or not the M4 is standard issue, not about 5.56 stopping power.

                  US army offical website:

                  http://www.army.mil/factfiles/equipm...vidual/m4.html

It achieves more than 85 percent commonality with the M16A2 rifle and will replace all .45 caliber M3 submachine guns, selected M9 pistols, and M16 series rifles.
also the DEV's have access to military advisors who are currently serving with the US army.

Some people in here seem to be confusing M4 with M4A1...

The M4 is still pretty much the main standard rifle for the today US Army. Don't believe me? I dare you to google up any pictures with the soldier wearing an ACU and see what kind of standard weapon he's carrying.

Well things do change and I'm sure that cancelling the XM8 made folks scramble as everyone was pretty sure that was the next best thing since sliced bread.

I have to take what you say at face value because I'm not in-service and my friends in-service are in detachments from their designated units. They do not carry M4s in those detachments. I probably shouldn't speak further on that because I'm getting close to violating OpSec rules.

Thanks for squaring me away. I greatly dislike not speaking the truth, so I have no problem being corrected.

However, you could choose to conduct yourself in a more respectful manner. But, that would have to be your choice and not mine.

In case anyone is wondering what I'm talking about, being called a "hero" in the Army is an insult.

It should at something like £20,000 a shot, not sure on the exact figure but its hovering some where around there :p

EDIT: according to Ross Kemp its £60,000 a shot.
