yep im a laptop gamer. While I don't have one designed specifically for mobile gaming , it runs 2142 reasonably well and i can take it to my friend's house for some lan action or leeching free wireless internet. I have to agree with the heat issues some people have while gaming on their portable pcs. Uncooled, my one can create enough heat to keep my hands warm during cold winter nights. Laptop fans is a must if you want to reduce heat-related wear and tear. Considering laptops tend to only have a one year warranty, a fan is well worth it.

Problem is, laptops have different fan outlets, mine has one at the back, many laptop coolers are fans that blow air on the underside of the laptop, which is practically pointless, it cools the casing, and doesn't help the airflow.

yeah, My laptop draws air in from holes at the bottom and blows it out the side. I have to put my cooler funny so it gets the fan to blow directly into the holes. Drawback of having a laptop cooler is that it blows dust into your laptop faster than if without the fan. The HDD also gets quite warm too while running games. Not good since HDDs in laptops tend to die first before anything else

Mine died recently, primarily due to overheating (The disk just melted).

I am getting one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Mo...1170315&sr=1-1

The reason I am not buying a laptop cooler (the things that look like a laptop themselves) is due to their impracticality, I am just going to use this to blow air into my side far (and shutdown the fan itself).

I've been gaming on a laptop since the game came out. I have the Acer TravelMate 4670 but just convinced the company that it is time to upgrade so I will be getting a new laptop tomorrow or Thursday. Asus M50Sv

I haven't had any problems with overheating but I ave always used a laptop cooler. I'm on my third one in a year and a half. They have all fit easily in my bag so it's no big deal to take with me to work locations or anywhere else. The one I'm using right now is theRocketfish Cooler

yea, good idea... tell you another good tactic. which is VERY CHEAP.
get 6 lego blocks and arrange them symmetrically under the laptop, raising the laptop about 2cm from the ground, without hindering your gaming:)

i know its a stupid idea, but ive been doing it with the more demanding games and its stopped them from crashing. LOL

don't put your laptop on soft things such as carpet or pillows, they tend to block airholes or just act as insulation to stop heat escaping

Nearly all the laptop coolers don't support 17" wide screens

That actually isn't that bad an idea, that is, if your table is only for your laptop.
