Anyone Out There a Laptop Gamer?

I was just wondering how many people out there are using laptops to play 2142. i was just wondering cos when i was in clans for BF2 i would be the only one with a laptop. i was just wondering what the laptop scene was like here in 2142.
If you do, do you find it frustrating how you know there is no way you can upgrade video card/ RAM/ Hard Drive etc.

    Its a bummer...

I don't think there are many here who game on a laptop. A modern laptop should be able to handle 2142 though - the game requirements are not high by today's standards. As for upgrading the only thing that would make a major difference is your GFX chip so upgrading is pretty much a non starter.

Besides those laptop keyboards would be hellish for gaming lol

Oh right ok, thanks. I find gaming on a laptop keyboard really easy, cos its the only type of keyboard ive ever had. lol

Unless the manufacturer specifies so, it is not possible to upgrade the GPU on a laptop.

I was gaming on a laptop before it was cool. I use a Dell Inspiron 9300, and a Nostromo gaming pad, and a Logitech G 5 gaming mouse, it works for me. I play as FURRYBIRD or LAPTOPGAMER. I forgot to mention the Belkin cooling fan as the laptop is easyer to move and takes less space, and performance is going up and prices are coming down, in fact in a few short years desktops will be big bulky dinosaurs.

If you are interested in getting a dedicated laptop for gaming you may want to get one from a configurator. The configurator will build it for you using a large variety of parts you pick. Cyberpower and ibuypower are just two of the many companies. You can even get two nVidia video cards in sli in a laptop which will probably be better than most of the pc's. Also go for the seventeen inch screen. By August 2008 there should be some reasonably priced (a relative term!) solid state hard drives that are very fast and use significantly less battery power.

I have an IBM Thinkpad which does not really make the grade unless the resolution and effects are turned way down. Most of the time I get to play at home on the pc but the laptop is fun if I am on the road. The wireless connection is not the limiting part of the multiplayer game experience with my laptop.

As mentioned in a post above, heat can be extreme. The lap in laptop can get fried.

I have seen laptopgamer doing very well in the game. A good testimonial that good performance with a laptop is possible.

ya- i have the geforce 8600GT w/ 512 mb, 2 gb RAM, a C2D @ 2.00 ghz. it outdoes most recent desktops, so....

btw, the danger of using a laptop is dont put it on ur lap- ur manlihood will get fried....

yeah i personally dont see much of a difference if both a laptop and a pc can perform the same

I have seen performance improve and prices are completive to Desk tops.I am thrilled about this as Desk tops aren't portable and take up lots of real estate, where lappys are getting faster and cheaper. I said years ago that one day the Laptop will replace the desk top in most applications and it is slowly happening as now lap tops out sell desk tops.:yay:

                          Not exactly.

                          But BF2142 isn't that demanding. :)

I personally find laptop gaming to be a bit of a waste. You can't upgrade nearly as much as you can with a desktop, where you can switch out just about anything at any time. They become obsolete a lot faster.

Then you also have the issue of overheating. If you're playing demanding games a lot you need to have a external cooling system otherwise you risk overheating. That's just too much for me to carry around. :p

Yea ideally i would want to buy a cheap desktop and simply upgrade it, as there is no way you can get a future proof laptop, unlike with a PC where you can just keep upgrading...
When i bought my laptop it was the 'Ultimate Gaming Laptop' (this was a very long time ago) Now you have games like Crysis, which i cant play. And games like CoD4 which i can only just play. So you see there is no way to make your laptop future proof.
