Would you support BF series games if pay for play?

Would you support a Battlefield game not where you pay to play -- as in a subscription model?

Suppose for $10 a month you had unlimited access to a huge combined arms, first person shooter battlefield. It would have persistent ranking, custom character development, regular content upgrades and a clan match system.

Would paying a monthly fee be worth it?

Paying 49.99$ USD for the game itself isnt good enough anymore? What happened to the good ol' days of "pay and play"?

In short no i wouldnt support it, at all. I dunno about you Sonic, but at our age, i tend to be a little busy working, rearing the child/ren, defending the homestead(lol), half assed social events, and of course, the ol' lady. I would rather just pay the flat fee of the game itself, rather than pay 120$ a year for something i may have time to play, and may not.

If I had to pay a monthly fee I would feel that I need to play every single day so I can get the most out of my money. Right now I just play whenever I feel like it. If I don't play this week, then oh well, no money wasted.

So, no, I wouldn't pay to play any game.

I love the Battlefield series, but I cant bring myself to pay monthly to play any game. When BFHeros comes out, Im probably not going to buy extras. If that means my guy will be running around pistol only in his underwear, then thats what will happen. (Hmmm, should reword that...naw)

I will buy the game. I will buy servers. I will buy expansion packs. I wont do monthly service.

I paid $50 for the game. I am still making EA some money by having the in-game ads. EA has another $10 because I bought Northern Strike.

IGA, booster packs? Fine with me.
            Monthly fee? Nope.

Wait... Who said anything about $50?

              I said, $10 a month.

That comes with new content (maps, weapons, equipment) every 4 months included. Not interesting? If you buy an expansion pack, why not pay to employ mappers, modellers and texture artists who feed you constant updates?

For the game itself, unless you plan to give free d/ls and charge people to play it.

In order to warrant a pay-to-play system a-la mumorpugers, they would have to have some rationale behind it. MMOs have persistant game worlds, and the game is played entirely on the company's servers. BF has always been played on privately-owned servers, although EA used to have their own 'official' servers up for the game a few years ago, at least for BF1942, BF:V, and BF2. If we no longer had to rent our own servers (and, therefore, put up with dip**** server rules) and everything was sanctioned and moderated by EA/DICE, I could see a $10/month being warranted. But all they're providing right now, aside from patch support (which, I suppose, does take developer time and doesn't make any more money for the company), is the stats server, and I really don't see myself paying $10/month just for stats, especially since stats are meaningless given the aforementioned private server freedom.

So no, in its current state, there's no way BF should be pay-to-play monthly.

I'm getting the feeling from reading the responses that folks did not read my post before answering the poll question.

I did say that they would be providing the venue, the server would be ranked, there would be quarterly updates included.

I didn't state that we wouldn't have to pay $50 for the software because I said it would cost $10 a month. I guess that's not clear.

Not even if they took me to the woodshed and kicked my arse...........well maybe if the price of gasoline was under 1 dollar U.S.

Great idea, game $50, monthly fee $10, so you own it for just a year, wow $120 a year to play a game! Didn't War rock try that and it flopped big time?

But no mention of the venue, which IMO is the major selling point. Since hosting the servers is what brings in (or costs) the dough after the game has been sold there would be no reason for a subscription fee if EA still made us rent our own servers. Don't mean to seem like I'm nitpicking you mate , but I didn't see you mention the venue being provided anywhere. :)
