    Actually, some units do.

      Re: Beta

The only units to use the .50 Desert Eagle are the Polish special forces (GROM), and they were meant to be issued to certain members of the IDF, but never were.

They are not used because they are heavy, unreliable and take up too much space. A small machine pistol or standard pistol are more widely used.

All the sources i have seen have said no .50 D.E.'s are in the US Army. I think you might be mistaking it with another .50 calibre gun.

I can confirm from firsthand experience that there are quite a number of Desert Eagles in US soldiers hands. Our laws enable us to bring our own weapons with us (thanks to our early history with militias) and many combat arms troops choose to deploy with some type of personal weapon.

So, while they are not officially issued by the US Army, they are stored in unit arms rooms and some units provide ammunition in a war zone. Most often, you have to supply your own ammo, though. That in itself is a good reason not to carry that huge beast with you.

In the real world, in a battlefield situation, I'd want to have a dependable sidearm with lots of ammo available. I'd choose a .45 because it meets all the reqs. :salute:

The DE is fun for some shooting while you're messing around or deadly serious, but it sucks for everything else in between. I did not carry one, but a friend of mine did and it was a beast to shoot as well as carry. No thanks.
