Is the Apple Battlefield 2142 the same as the PC version?

Would I have to start all over in stats if I bought a Mac, are the servers different?

If they play 2142 then they may finally be a viable option. It's the only game I play.

What sort of performance do you get when running bootcamp?

i heard that they get really bad quality when they play on rome total war, which is much older than BF2142

maybe on old macs. as far as i know new macs should be able to play games just like pc's. they just need another code.

I have heard the new Macs run windows better than a PC, and there is a Mac version of Battlefield 2142 and I wonder if the servers are the same.

The problem is that XP won't be supported any longer and Vista absolutely sucks for gaming, so Mac will be the only choice in the future.

um..... not really.... i dont see how you can say that. the only macs that come with independent vid cards are the macbook pros, for over $2,000- the rest have some integrated junk. and when macs run vista/XP thru bootcamp, it sucks. ive seen it. my friend is a mac-sucking-coke-smoking-hippie who all he knows how to talk about is macs, and he has a pro, and he tried to play crysis on bootcamp, and it lagged... like trying to play crysis with a 64-mb video card or s/t!

Macs do not get frequent driver updates AFAIK. This could be a disaster if you try to do all your gaming inside the Mac OS. This will also affect you even if you use their virtual program (Bootcamp, right?), but you might be ok if you did a dual boot setup.

But if you're going to do a dual boot setup, why not custom build a [Windows] PC? You will spend much less money and get better hardware.

Macs are better for some things, but gaming is not one of them.

...got a buddy that plays on a mac pro. Seems fine according to him. He's gotta a descent card though. I haven't tried on mine yet. I only use it for work.

Re: Is the Apple Battlefield 2142 the same as the PC version?

heres how i counter all the advantages macs boast:

                        1) macs get no viruses
counter- they do- rarely, but they do. heres the thing. as long as you have anti-virus software, and there is a very good one for free, AVG, that does the job very well. i have that one, and no viruses!

                        2)macs are faster
counter- for an extra $20-$40 you can add an extra gig!
                        but not on a mac.....

                        3)macs are cooler
counter- ya, sez who? windows can be personalized with almost any color, provided the seller offers it- and for only about $25. macs only come in white and black (the black is an extra $200)

                        4)easier to use
response- also, sez who?! not for me- i use both a mac and a window machine. windows are easier to use, even if they are a bit slower

5)macs come with everything, while windows come with business, and home, and basic stuff
response- well, if i wasnt s/o who makes videos, why would i want a 1 gb video editing program? with windows, if you are a businessman, you can get a version made for your trype, that wont include the stuff that the home edition gets.

6)macs are made specially for artists and people like that
counter- so? windows has programs that can do most of the same things macs can do.

so remember kids, while macs may have flashy commercials, they are full of cr*p.
windows are mainstream, you can get them from many different places for many different prices, they are good for gaming, and cost less.
                        end of story.

as i said, macs are good for video editing, which im pretty sure final cut is for, right?
sony Vegas looks good too though.

Re: Is the Apple Battlefield 2142 the same as the PC version?

To answer the original question, I would imagine that the two versions are actually slightly separate. As far as I know, BF2142 on Mac is still stuck at patch 1.25 (although I haven't been following it very closely). If they upgraded, then the two versions should be able to run fine together since the Mac version merely uses third-party libraries and emulated APIs.

On the off-topic issue: I have a MacBook Pro. I run Vista on Boot Camp and play BF2142. Through my school, my MBP was comparable (if slightly more expensive) to a Dell. I wouldn't say I'm a Mac person. I actually think OS X is poorly designed in many respects compared to Windows, and I have considered running Windows full-time on my Mac. However, I am a fan of the exterior and the consistency across applications. I am quite fond of the Dell M1530s, and I probably would have picked that laptop instead had it come out when I was in the market for a laptop.

Boot Camp is a native solution for Macs to run Windows so there is nothing implicitly better or worse about running Windows on a Mac and on a PC. The one thing that Boot Camp suffers from is a lack of consistent upgrades to the video card drivers. That explains why newer games sometimes run slower on a Mac than on a PC. BF2142, however, runs pretty much exactly the same (frames vary within a standard deviation). Crysis naturally runs pretty poorly out of the box, but it is possible to upgrade your Boot Camp drivers.
