I get over 1400 servers every time I scan
and over 1/2 of them have decent player counts
and as I HATE IO servers
I still have NO problem finding plenty of air maps
btw
I took a year off from BF2
but came back as it is still the best combat game *IMHO
RTR 24/7 Wake and FullContactWars......the only two "golden days" servers still running and populated nowadays.....I remember those servers back from 05!
Say, speaking of wake, is it considered playing the past now? 2008? hello?
I loaded up BF2 for the first time in about 7 months today, and to my disappointment all I can seem to find are infantry only servers. I had always liked playing on 32 man maps, with vehicles, but have yet to run across one of these servers that has more than 20 people on it.
I cant get into the infantry thing either, battlefield just ain't battlefield without vehicles.
Check out these servers, seriously: 1)Sexy 2)Dead Meat 3)HOG 4)Texas Team Players 5) GzR
I don't think the problem is there are no good vehicle servers out there, rather you're too lazy to scroll through more than the first page of servers found, no offense.
Thing is, there aren't consistent and good vehicle servers. Let's do some quick math:
As of 2am on Saturday, there are approximately 270 servers (Ranked and Unranked) showing up in my BF2 browser. Of those,
- 110 ping acceptably (less than 125ms)
- 49 servers are on a complete air map* ^
* A disproportionate number of which include Dragon Valley.
^ Wake is simply a jet map, and Sharqi is a ground map. They were not included in that list.
Of the 49, less than 20 are acceptably populated.
The other maps are almost always invariably Wake, Strike at Karkand and Jalalabad. In other words, unless you really f*cking like playing Dragon Valley, the odds of you finding a populated air map to play on at any given time are very low.
BF2, as it was meant to be played, is dying/dead.
PS. I usually play one of six maps: here's how many there are at the moment...
Dalian - 9 (3 are populated)
Daqing - 5 (2 are populated)
Kubra - 3 (1 is populated)
Gulf - 5 (2 are populated)
Fushe - 3 (1 is populated)
Dragon - 29 (15 are populated, but F*CK DRAGON)
I still have a great time playing this game, because:
There's still so much diversity in BF2.
If I wanted to I could:
Play on a 10-30 man vehicle server where I'm almost guaranteed to get the vehicle of my choice and have a good game
Play on a 40-60 man wake server and rape the sh!t out of the Chinese airfield for giggles, where I come away with >150 points and the occasional good dogfight against a semi-skilled J-10 pilot.
Play on a 15-25 man IO Karkand server where there's normally LOTS of teamwork and next to no 'nade spamming.
Or my favourite option of late which is to play on a Wake Airshow server or Chopper Mayhem where I try and hold my own against the chopper and jet pros.
The good servers are out there albeit you really have to know of a particular one as lucking across a good one can be hard. I feel sorry for the people that cannot locate the good servers and are stuck with the IO servers or if they do find a server with all the maps and vehicles, they have to endure a laundry list of stupid rules like not being able to attack the uncap, waiting in line for vehicles, and on and on; the servers where the admins have to spend most of their time enforcing their dumb rules.

Tell me about it.
I don't know if everyone's been flying over my previous post, but I thought it was abundantly clear that unless you really enjoy IO or DV, there's practically nothing for you out there... and when you actually find a server to play on, you have to deal with a bunch of ridiculous rules.
