Re: Just had a brilliant Idea to stop TK for vehicles

My problem with such restrictions is that once you're in and your credits have been "processed", what's to stop the enemy from baseraping you? Are those point given back to you if you've been killed from within the uncap or pad boundaries? Another pensez-y bien...

Re: Just had a brilliant Idea to stop TK for vehicles

Limiting the vehicle by experience is a horrible idea and creates division amongst players which eventually kills off the game. The license idea is even worse since it requires that you spend hours playing a game off line or in tiny populated servers just to be allowed to use a vehicle that is part of the game.

What happens if someone buys the game tomorrow why should they then have to spend x amount of hours learning to fly in single player to gain some license, they, like many bought the game for it's multi player action having to go play hours off line in sp just to be able to do everything would be a very annoying.

Before all the elites jump in to say that they spent hours training in sp remember that's something you chose to do, no one made you do it.

I fly jets, and yes it annoying when some noobs grabs the jet before you do and takes off and turns out to be cr*p but so what? Deal with it and move on. It's not like their isn't a whole bunch of other things to do in a game and it's not like their isn't another thousand servers out there to play on.

If the game was limited and there was maybe just a few servers then maybe a system would need to be created to limit everyone trying to get that one resource but that's not the case.

On the other hand resource hogs and TKs are annoying. The solution that limits your ability to enter vehicles for 30seconds after a TK is a very very good and a very simple one. The resource hog issue could be solved by ensuring that the player in the vehicle gets a set number of kills before they die 1 or 2. Someone who's rubbish in the plane won't get that many so they won't be allowed to reenter the plane on their next spawn.

The best solution: play in an organized environment.

It should be a mandatory feature, just like in AA.

Uncap boundaries (bleeds out attacking jets and helis quickly if they enter the area) could be a server-side option, however.

You haven't thought this through: single-player and local servers, along with test/practice courses, could easily be designed to give would-be pilots the necessary training required to pass the licensing requirements. Besides, the basic license level wouldn't require much training: you would definitely have to work for the higher levels, however...

Because their lack of skill is detrimental to the team and only hinders everyone else. If every player is required to go through the same tests prior to being granted access to the vehicles, where's the unfairness?

Agreed. If DICE were to contract me to go over the licensing system, tests and all related matters, I can assure you we'd have a nice, balanced game in place. Since that won't happen...

I play Gran Turismo wanna guess what the most tedious part of the game is, the license tests. I wanna jump straight in and race but have to spend 3 hours passing the tests before I can. BF2 is advertised on it's multi player do anything in a war zone game play. To buy t and suddenly find you can't do everything until you've spent x hours training in a single player or test course level or some daft low level server full of noobs would put alot of folk off real quick.

Because their lack of skill is detrimental to the team and only hinders everyone else.
First, not everyone who plays cares about the team, as you and a few other have stated they may just be playing for their own pleasure, being part of the team might not factor in to that idea. Second most servers that do care more about the team and squad aspect are generally more organised about who does what so in general talented pilots get the resource anyway.

If every player is required to go through the same tests prior to being granted access to the vehicles, where's the unfairness?
There is none in a single level license but a multi level license introduces a few issues.

First you could be a great high scoring team helping pilot yet be unable to pull off that one move required to give you that higher license. While some noob who spends most of the time taking his wings off on trees might be able to do that move and pass a higher level license than you thus giving him priority.

Second if you introduce license based on K/D ratios or score of any sort then all you do is introduce yet another reason to vehicle whore and encourage people to find ways to stat pad to get that higher level.

Whether or not you care about the team on a personal level is incidental to the reality of the situation, because a great player will help the team implicitly through his actions. An inept player won't, regardless of how badly he wants to help out.

My license requirements would be fair and practical: you wouldn't be required to perform any particularly troublesome techniques for the initial licensing levels. And believe me, the simple act of practicing one particular technique would in no way allow "some noob" to pass the top levels.

Second if you introduce license based on K/D ratios or score of any sort then all you do is introduce yet another reason to vehicle whore and encourage people to find ways to stat pad to get that higher level.

KDR has no business in my licensing system, though there would obviously be a correlation between skill level and KDR. Still, that's entirely irrelevant.

And for some reason this crap happens less often is 2142. Why? No armor piecing rounds, less overpowered jets? I dunno. :|:

Agreed, but I was referring to the game's feature: I've already addressed that by saying something along the lines of "if everybody has to go through it, there's nothing unfair about the process". What may appear tedious and annoying to him may very well be an exciting addition to someone else: in fact, a friend of mine loved going through the GT licensing because he ended up learning a lot about the game mechanics along the way.

                      Solution 1:
If you get TKed for vehicles and FF is on. Next time come with a M95 and pass your turn and wait for the eager ashole to get in first. Then headshot him out of it and fly peacefully.

Solution 2: AT him down if he steels your turn.

Solution 3: go to a server where ther are less asholes and less flyjerks.

Solution 4: Get EA to make better fking games instead of all these shetty systems they come up with.

With regard to GT4 it is indeed part of the game and I dealt with it by getting a full set of gold passes for all the tests. With regards to BF2 what we are discussing isn't part of the game so debating it seems the only logical course.

The reality is it's very easy for the elites to come up with pie in the sky ideas that in most cases are of sole benefit to only them. When you've been playing for a year or more and have the skill and know everything their is to know about the game and the task you play in it it becomes very easy to forget that are and always will be newbies. Some will want to try the choppers, jets and tanks and others won't. I would love a system that meant me and only me could get the use of the jet whenever I wanted but the reality is that the game and resource within them can be bought and played by anyone of any skill level. To quote you Sloi

While I agree that it would be rather late to introduce such a system in BF2, I was actually referring to BF3. Try to keep up...

Very old problem. Some of the suggestions here are sort of ok, but still open to exploits and abuse.

There should be a pilot class, the pilot skins are already in the game.
Only pilots can take the pilot position in jets.
You cannot pick up pilot kits.
You can only spawn as many pilots at a flag to equal jets at that flag.
After you have been flying 30 secs pilot is deselected as your kit selection and another pilot can spawn to wait.
You can keep respawning as pilot until you have actually flown for 30 secs or more (you won't miss out by being tk'd or spawncamped).
The commander cannot choose the pilot kit.
If a jet is available that remains unmanned for 30 secs an extra pilot can spawn (enabling pilots to set off to steal enemy jets, and / or to account for AFK pilots).

So Wake carrier for example could have 2 F35 pilots in the air and 2 waiting maximum. If one waiting pilot is AFK for 30 secs (F35 remains unmanned for 30 secs) another pilot could spawn.

If 2 pilots stole 2 enemy jets then your team could still spawn more pilots for your own jets, and still have 2 pilots queued at your airfield. So this system would not limit gameplay strategies in any significant way either.

If someone tk's you while you're a waiting pilot they can't pick up your kit and fly, and you are still able to respawn as pilot and take that jet.

Pretty comprehensive changes, but needs to be done TBH. This solves a lot of problems, namely tk's, it would limit the number of idle players on maps like Wake, and get rid of flying commanders for good. It would serve as a fair queue system, giving everyone an equal chance at flying. It would also prevent jet whores from artificially boosting their other kit stats, however the horse has already bolted there, making kit stats pretty much meaningless in the here and now.

Stats padding has an equally easy fix, kicked and banned if you do either of...
...revive the same guy 7 times in a row without dying, healing or reviving anyone else.
...kill the same guy 7 times in a row without dying, killing or damaging anyone else.
...die to the same guy 7 times in a row without dying or being damaged by anyone else.
Why 7? Well in 2,500 hours of play I've NEVER been killed, revived, or killed the same person 7 times in a row.

The friendly vehicle damage and forced tk's by ramming bollox also has an equally easy fix...
...the stationary vehicle is never to blame.
...if both moving the fastest vehicle to blame.
Rudimentary but better than just rude (the current system).

No matter what anyone says, licencing system is a godsend. It wont stop someone without the licence to enter the vehicle, but it guarantees that if someone with a higher license wants to enter it aswell, they get the first go.

You dont want to practice? Then kindly bugger off. If you want to play the game for your own personal fun, stay in SP.
