OK, picture this scenario. 2 players spawn at beginning of a map, or heck, even in the middle of a match. They both bolt for that J10 that's patiently waiting in the hanger. Player 1 is in front of Player 2, but Player 2 is a bit more greedy, and desparately wants to build in his air time to get that veteran aviator badge. So, Player 2 grenades Player 1. yea, we've all seen this scenario hundreds of times.
So, here's my brilliant idea!!!
Put a visible radius around the vehicle. Make this radius large enough to cover the spawn points. If you're in that radius, you're immune to TKs. Also, and just as important, add a second smaller radius around the vehicle. The player who gets inside that radius first has first dibs on the vehicle. Put a time limit on whether he gets in or not. If he doesn't get in the vehicle in 30 seconds, the next player in the radius can get in, and so forth. That way, it becomes a race to see who can get to the radius first. you loose, you snooze.
The vehicle does not have to actually be there for the radius to be there. We all know that people queue up for vehicles when they could be out helping their team win, but nonetheless, the radius queue system could still avoid TK's. It would make the game more efficient. If you spawn and go to an area where a tank spawns, but you see a player already waiting there with a symbol or color noting that he's "queued", then you might as well move on to more productive things.
This idea would be a great implementation in BF3. I'm sure its too late for BF2.
