i love this battlefield game because first off not stats which is like and electric fence to the crazys aka hackers. how you could change would you looked sure not a big deal but a nice little feature. the unbalanced game play which i loved because it gave a sense of a war where one side is better equipped then the other, also the radio which should have been in all battlefield forwards but wasn't and i'm still trying to find all the dev's so i can hit in the face and say what the hell is wrong with you. also the radar was so helpful in dog fighting and great for finding people to carpet bomb. last great thing about it was the simple fact the infantry and vehicle combat was fun and also how you could chose a to be a ambusher, a rambo, or a guy with a mortar next to an ammo crate trying to kill someone half a map away, or the guy base raping which booby traps or bouncing bettys

(Woopee first post) I always wanted to know what aspects of this game people really liked. I only played it a few times a couple months ago. I know its pretty much impossible to like if I got into it that late. But still, I have been wondering. I find the interface a bit sloppy and very shaky. And whats up with that scooter? I couldn't drive that thing to save my life.

Haha!I know what you mean...shaky interface,deadly scooter...etc.

But I love this game.I really do.Because it's simple and fun.Because of the maps,the costumes,the weapons,the jungle,the music.Because it's Vietnam.
Because you can be on the machine-gun on the side of a chopper flying over the jungle with that bandana on your head listening to 60's rock saying "i love the smell of napalm in the morning".Because you can be the communist sneaky rebel who will set the traps near the path or wait with his AK-47 in the jungle for the next enemy to pass.

And simply because small boats in the river,snipers hidden and that propaganda radio program are just too cool.All I can do is love this game because it's so much fun.

THE MUSIC!!!! Flying a jet, dropping Napalm while listening to "Ride of the Valkyries" is probably the most fun I've ever had.

I was hoping that in 2142 the dropship could carry some kind of vehicle like the hueys, nope. then i hoped that the apcs were amphib, nope. well surely they must have music to play during the game, nope. how about an intercom in vehicles? nope. gah cmon EA make us an updated Vietnam game with intercoms and a spyplane for the commander (vis limited by trees and the cameraman's perspective + fuel) the older the better it seems with ea games. although i still like 2142.

Pure and simple, what made this game so good?

The nitty gritty factor. Everything feels simple. You don't need a manual to play and weapons were powerful yet balanced.
It didn't have the best graphics ever but for the day it did just fine. No matter what role you played you had a job and could still defend yourself. Everything was quick to react and it was an all out solid game.

A true COD4 of it's day. Gritty, simple, perfect.

BFV was only ever an experiment by EA to see what they could do. BFV did have a UAV in it of a sort, the planes had them. This game is so special to many because they came from 1942 which at the time was yet another WWII game, albeit one of the best. Vietnam wasn't really seen as a theatre of war for gamers, many wanted BF2 to come out after 1942 as that was what was seen as the logical step in gaming warfare so when BFV came out it was an almighty smack in our face.

What helped was the fact booby traps could be used, mobile spawn points could be set up, buddylists were introduced by way of changing names to green, most of the maps were immense with Hastings being IMHO the best map ever made for a game, vehicles were easy to use yet hard to master, the physics of airpower were designed for the choppers first and not planes, unlike every other game where by you can fly, and finally the music, most of which had been used in the great vietnam war films.

Alot of what went in to BFV came out in BF2 refined. What killed both games for me was the constant tinkering nurfing the air power just to please the ground pounders who coincidently couldn't fly. BFV 1.1 was the best version of the best game during the past 5 years for me, shame it didn't last that long.

yup, BFV was an awsome experience on the ground, most atmospheric in any DICE BF game!

Think, I was so dissapointed in the choppers (handling) in BFV I quit early, although (best sound of a chopper ever from the ground) do now remember it was my first experience of me and three buddies charging the ememy, ace stuff then the nerfs came - M60.. pow

I think BFV was a very under rated game in the shaddow of the great 42 but to be honest it was a full BF title and i thought it was great

In its last days with mods like POE it really came to its own best:thumbsup:
