Well Fingulfin, your thinly veiled threats of violence are a fitting tribute to your age.

It all reminds me of a stupid old story called the "Little Red Hen". So in any case, Fingulfin you can continue to enjoy playing a game which will probably only get better as a result of no effort on your own part. Congrats. I hope every time you log in, you realize that the game was improved owing in no part to you or the other jaded cynics.

Since different people made different requests, it will be hard to say which changes are implemented. My guess is that the people who bothered to email DICE (and are deserving of much thanks), are the one's whose suggestions will move to the top.

Your insolence and failure to see sarcasm are common symptoms of being a know it all adult.

FYI, I am a game programmer. Not a full one, no, but thats what I am majoring in (and yes, I am in college). I know how this crap works, and trust me its NOT by listening to every letter some guy sends in. Game Design is JUST like most other industries... Something you have to note is that its NOT about serving the players. Its about $$$. A company will only do what it feels will rack in the most cash. If that means another patch, then roll out the programmers. If that means bundling the game and expansion together and selling them at bargain prices, then lets get some new cover art to appeal to those who haven't heard of the game before.

If a company feels that its sales aren't going to get any better on a particular title, no amount of letters from "casual gamers" are going to make it keep working on that particular game.

Even if a company feels that a game could use another patch, do you think that it is going to listen to a bunch of one-sided letters from people? Something that you obviously don't understand is that the player base is STUPID. That means you, that means me. Nobody can agree on how the game should be balanced. Take this very topic for example! The OP said that PK rockets were over powered. Not many people agreed with him, but it still stands that the player base does NOT agree on what needs to be fixed. The absolute WORST thing that a game company can do when balancing things out is listen to the community. I know, I know, they like posting "Due to community feedback we..." but how often does something that starts like that look pretty? What would several thousand players think if in the next change log we saw "Due to community feedback we lowered the Voss's effective range to 30 Meters." I don't know about you, but I remember all the "VOSS VS BAUR OMG" threads that there were. How many people do you think would be pissed at an update like that?

In closing, a game company does what it must to get as much dough out of a title. Listening to community = BAD. You can deny any and all of the things I have stated, but hey, they say that ignorance is bliss

Well Fingulflin, again, I guess I would state again that your response was tinged with a thinly veiled threat of violence. I guess I didn't realize "youse" was a college educumacated thug. In your posting, it stated your age was 17, but that is probably just a forum bug.

In any event, every patch has its risks. But having played this game for over 1,000 hours and earning 5 BG (yes I deleted one and started over), I'm willing to see what happens next. A patch presents a real opportunity for continued play and the viability of a game which is worth supporting. Of course there are risks in balance and not every suggestion which is made should be accepted by the programmers or ultimately implemented. The patch will go through a beta process and hopefully the people participating will provide the appropriate feedback.

Since EA already owns about 50% of the gaming market, and has billions to toss around on acquisitions, they don't strike me as following a "penny-wise" pound foolish approach and perhaps want to show continued support as a demonstration of their commitment to a franchise. No one said business had nothing to do with their decision, but I think we can all agree that continued support for the title is good news.

I see however, no reason not to at least mention that a few people did write several emails and call others to do so in order to try to get more support for the game. I think those people deserve some praise. I'm not sure why you find that so offensive.

And now if we're done with the personal insults, lets see if we can get back on topic.

I would like to see them put some movement back into the beacon and transport pods. I miss my rooftops.

(Note that I know some of you don't agree that players should be allowed on roofs but when they released 1.40 they said that they left some movement to specifically allow players on roofs. If you don't agree, who cares, just keep this on topic of things you would like to see. Even though none of what we post here really matters.)

Actually, my forum age IS a bug. I'm only 16. I just graduated High School very early due to finishing all my courses  I plan on having my BA in Computer Science by age 20, but thats beside the point.

As for EA... They are a COMPANY. It doesn't matter how much they control, they want more. Its how companies work. Microsoft owns probably MORE than 50% of the market in OSs, yet they still charge high prices for Windows XP. Why? Money :p I do agree with you on one point, regardless of WHY this update is coming its a good thing that its coming at all.

I don't find it offensive, I find it puzzling. Why do the people who spam DICE/EA's E-Mail deserve any more praise than those who post on forums? DICE reads both, in fact something on a forum has more chance of being seen than something in an inbox! I don't think that these people deserve any more mention than anyone else.

And now if we're done with the personal insults, lets see if we can get back on topic.
This topic was doomed to die when it was first started. We aren't supposed to be posting about 1.5 in the General Discussion forum, TGN wants us to discuss it in the news forum. Guess why... Google hits! Yay :dead:

True, we should have taken bets on how long it would take for them to lock this one like they did the first one about the patch.

                  Fingulfin:

Just be more respectful in your posts and exercise greater care in the language you use.

The reason I suggested that we give some credit is because many people were very negative towards people who suggested that people email DICE. These things were posted on the forums and the forums do contain helpful suggestions. My simple point was, there was a core group of people who continually had nothing positive to say about people who were willing to take the extra step of contacting DICE and trying to get more support for the game.

In fact, the same group of critics constantly says that posting on the forum is in fact a waste of time. So, my point is, there are some people who did not care who was offering a suggestion or in what forum. People, however, who are willing to get involved should be recognized when there are results. But in the end, it does not matter whether you did or did not write the email or did or did not post on a forum, because we all get to enjoy the bread. However, if you want your opinions to count, it does not hurt to state them rather than rely on others to do it for you and direct contact might make more of a difference than indirect contact.

Finally, Fingulfin congrats on your coursework.

As for suggestions, here are some old ones from another posting:

                  1) People can still glitch into walls

                  2) People can still pod surf from one side of the map to the other.

                  3) Podding out of an Air- transport if you're the pilot will get you instantly killed as you can not steer the pod enough to dodge the falling chopper. (People complain about bailing pilots too, though. Maybe pilots should not be able to bail or should automatically say "bail out" when they do.)

                  4) Gunship pilot missiles often miss their target even when you're flying and shooting directly behind an enemy gunships. The missiles fly towards their target then mysteriously circle it then miss. Gunship shields often don't work. When you're flying head to head with another gunship and raise your shields, the enemy gunship missiles pass right through it and kill you.

                  5) Server instability still causing crashes

                  6) Unable to spawn on titan on new round

                  7) Titan shields won't go down after enough silo missiles have supposedly taken it out.

                  8) Sentry guns firing through titan walls

                  9) Motion mines fly off into the distance when "bouncing" back up to the surface

Lately, I've also noticed "silos that won't turn" and a situation in which the titan blew up without being attacked right after the shields went down. This was relayed as an "APC" glitch that ruined the whole round.

I'm fairly happy with everything as it is, or at least have accepted the things I can not change.

Only thing that really bugs me is the "kit save" function. Something they implemented in the last patch that was directly brought about by "community input". Spawning in with odd ball stuff just drives me nuts !

They need to do something with the ids infantry scanners! It has spoilt the game so much. You see loads of them around the maps and titans. So everyone knows where everyone is, doesn't leave much to stealth and surprise which would make the game more enjoyable.

Maybe change their range/time; or something to combat them like a scanner that blocks them..? or an emp that disable them...?

                      Thoughts?

While they're at it they should make the Grenades explode like Nukes!

No, I don't agree with nerfing the IDS-1... Maybe make it so that EMPs can disable it, but that would be as far as I would want to take it.

By the way, there is a counter in place already; its called the Ghost.

The feeling of walking around not knowing where the enemy are is awesome. Always looking over your shoulder, and strategies of getting behind the enemy front line. Most of the time now, you know where the enemy is and they know where you are.

I never imagined it. Well here's my personal fix list.

                            1. get transport pods back to normal
                            2. fix the Doragon sheilds
                            3. for christ's sake, fix the sentries on titans
                            4. make getting killed in the Hachi at least a bit harder
                            5. fix a few titan glitches...maybe?
                            6. just fix a few random bugs and glitches in general.

New content, I wouldn't expect a lie from those words. A new booster, or god help, an expansion would be a dream come true.

I HATE that feeling. Lately, I have found that I love the Krylov more than the Clark. However I still don't play assault... Why? Fear of the unknown is a good way to put it :p If Assault had an IDS, I would run around with an IDS+Defib combo and pwninate the battlefield :p
