If they behaved online like they do in singleplayer, you'd probably be a lot happier with your gunners. On the other hand, gunship gunners who lay into armor with the chaingun, announcing your presence to the target and letting them activate the shields long before your pilot-fired rockets hit, do in fact deserve an unceremonious forced-ejection.

That goes for vehicle gunners too... drives me completely bonkers when guys get into a vehicle turret (tank, APC, FAV, Goliath, Hachi, take your pick) and just randomly fire off the guns just to be squeezing the trigger. None of the vehicles are stealthy-quiet, but you'd have the element of surprise a lot more often if gunners would lay the hell off the triggers until they actually had something to shoot, instead of just shooting to shoot, 500 feet out from any real target, which is now warned and can hide and/or even set up a vehicle-smashing ambush.

The biggest reason your going to miss is because you OVERrcorrect the missle flight path if you were trying to readjust and then the thing just flies past the vehicle not where you wanted. You gotta either be really slow and steady with it or have it set up so you curve the missle as hard as it can go to get to hit something you just gottan practice. yeah framerate is an issue to, i think im going to buy one of those 8800GTs soon
I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, other than suffering from missile-lag online. Practicing in single-player, I can use the TV missile to clip a hair off a gnat's *** with ridiculous ease. Online, I fire a TV missle and it's impossible to control.. I get what suddenly feels to be like maybe 5 frames a second and scoring an actual hit is like trying to shove butter up a wildcat's *** with a hot poker. My #1 machine is beastly and any frame rates outside of the TV missile are smooth as glass, even in the middle of an orbital strike with a dozen guys running around shooting everything they've got, or on a titan with every player in the game fighting in the cargo bay.

FAST is the best gunship pilot out there, there is no doubt about that. Another tactic with TV Soloing is that if the enemy gunship is beyond your skill level (anyone in the top 200 with the gunship can shoot me down somewhat easily) is just to fly UP. When you are around 500 Meters up, look down for the enemy gunship. When you see him, TV him! If you do it right, he won't raise his shields in time and there ya go, no more enemy gunship. Try communicating to a gunner that that is what you want to do :p
Well, my problem there is I'm not terribly great as a pilot. I do okay, I suppose, but after all my years of gaming and playing hardcore realism flight sims, I find the flight physics in the battlefield games too... weird, I guess. :p I'd rather gun than pilot in most cases.

Is the hit registration for TVs as horrible in this as in BF2? Such as missiles going through other gunships and such?

I've personally found their hit detection pretty spot on, but most of my gunship experience is from years back when I originally played the game... haven't done much flying with my new account, but I doubt that has really changed much in that time

As I never jump into the pilot seat, I'm more than happy for someone else to take it. A n00b jumping in a tank however......

Though I agree when it works - it just 'works'. I have many a time in a tank where the air-cover on my side has just been superb. It makes such a difference in game.
I can fly pretty well, but I get blown out of the sky pretty easily.

The go through gunships moving at high speeds roughly 25% of the time, but other than that they are fantastic!

Oh yeah, and sometimes you get a "Dud TV". Basically it fires, but doesn't let you control it.

What I'm excited about in a new game is solo vehicles like jets, I hate having a great dogfight and letting the other gunner slowly deplete me with his gun, knowing its just two people battling gives it a more epic and fair feeling.
