Question for snipers

Hola peoples! So I decided to go about finishing up some challenges, plus lately to freshen up the game I've started using weapons I don't regularly use. Now, back in older CoDs and MoHs, I always used rifles/sniper rifles, so it was very fun for me to start using the sniper rifles in this game.

My question after using the sniper rifles is this, is the m40 the best all around sniper? The M21 seems to have very little recoil, semi-auto; Dragunov is a semi-auto machine lol; Barret is close to the M40 but bigger recoil and semi-auto and I was just about to try the R700. I was wondering if "by the numbers" the M40 was the best?

I like using bolt action as it reminds me of the good ole days with the WWII games, but yeah, just thought I'd get some input from the peeps who have been using the snipers in CoD4.

I use the M40... I'n not sure why even. It just seems the most balanced for some reason, that and the R700. For some reason many don't like the R700, I just see the M40 but more powerful.

The Barrett is fun to use thats for sure... its so massive. Try it with an acog, its like having a .50 cal M14. :P

I believe the M40 is the best rifle...

Comparisons:

M21: Less damage, less range, and it makes me feel like less of a "sniper"
Dragunov: More damage than M21, but a lot of recoil - not really worth it.
Barrett (.50 Cal): More damage, semi, but for some reason it doesn't feel as maneuverable as the other rifles.
R700: More damage than the M40, but a lot more recoil.

If you use stopping power on the M40, and know how to aim properly, it is the best rifle. Other than that, I'd shoot for the M21 with stopping power if you find it troublesome to hit a target in one shot every time.

Really, if you are good with the bolt actions, you can pick up any sniper rifle and do well with it - but not vice versa.

I like the M40 more than any other sniper rifle. It doesn't take as long for the sway to "settle" as other rifles, and I just get more kills with it.

the m40 just seems alot like the R700, but I prefer it over the latter because there's not as much breathing interference and lower recoil.

Thank you for the responses. I pretty much feel the same as what was posted here. I just wanted to check b/c even when I think I know everything about a game, sometimes other people's experiences will surprise you. For example, I never even thought about the using the little skorpion and I heard about people saying it's good and wow...it is lol!

I'm completing challenges so I'll use all the rifles, but I was preferring the m40 also over the others. And yes, I love bolt actions, feels cooler when killing, and who needs a second shot.

And what is breathing interference?

He said he prefers the m40 over the latter (the r700), the m40 has the less recoil and breathing interference. I imagine he means the 'sway' of the gun when talking about the breathing.

I really like the M40... I have it on both of my sniper kits... It has plenty of stopping power in it, it has low recoil, and it's accurate as h3ll...

I could see myself using the R700 if the bullets per clip would go to 5.

I played them all, they all have different characteristics. I wouldnt say one is better than the other, but I will say there is a rifle for your style of sniping.

stoping power, iron lung's are must use perks.

Iron Lung's isn't must use, it's a good perk, but not a must...

Iron lungs is better for new snipers, it gives you more time to line up your shot. Once you get the hang of taking quick snapshots you won't need it anymore :)

Best perks (in my opinion) are:

Bandolier - I'm not accustomed to using much else. Also gives you more ammo when you pick up a gun as a substitute for your pistol. Nice because it increases your 20 rifle rounds to 40.

Stopping Power - Not really needed in hardcore, but it's the most useful perk in the selection unless you are trying to be stealthy (UAV Jammer)

Deep Impact - Dead Silence really isn't necessary. If you are trying to be stealthy your best bet is to go crouch or prone - If you are standing up don't ever expect to be hidden. Deep Impact is also great for those shots through a wall, especially if an unexpected obstacle emerges between you and your target.
