    Too many RULES

I've played Battlefield 2 since it arrived in 2005, I quit for a little while, but recently came back. After joining my favorite map, Dalian Plant, I quickly went in and started to capture bases in a tank, I was a commander, the admin said commanders cannot drive vehicles, so before I could get out he paused the server and gave me a 2 minute speech about following rules, and then banned me. I thought maybe it was just a pissed off little kid, so I joined another server and started blowing up commander assets, I then promptly got kicked saying, NO VEHICLES IN UCB, I was driving around in a jeep. After I logged back on to the server, the admin gave me a long speech and wrote out the rules to follow, there were 22 rules in total. Due to this I might not be able to play BF2 anymore as the rules make me angry, I mean cmon, This is War, There are no Rules!

Does anybody else feel that servers could ease up on rules a little bit?

(By the way, I do not baserape or do any of that junk)

Too many rules now. It wasn't always this way though... the game's been pussified and softened.

Quoted for the effing truth. Gawd, when you come to think of it it all comes down to a few reasons, keeping too good players away from your server being one of them.

Even though this thread is a flame war waiting to happen i have to agree with you... its war! i know its only a game and im not one of these people who take it for anything more than that... but its a war simulation and in war there is no leniency and no etiquette.. the rules about the commander not being able to do this or that is just bs.. and i know im going to get flamed for this BIG time.. but base raping should be allowed.. when im getting base raped i just spawn and run my butt off and most the time dont die..

i think the majority of people think the more rules u make the less their going to suck or somthing.. i agree that any hackers or glitcher is just not on as thats an unfair advantage.. but as for base raping and the comander using tanks and watever else that should be allowed.. but thats just my opinion

waahwaah - it's like 2AM... ffs go to sleep

On-topic: whichever way you name it, BF2 is indeed a game, so rules are needed.

              1) Bf2 is NOT a war simulation, never was and never going to be.
              2) Even in war you have sertain things you can and cant do. (ROE)

                Well,
That's exactly my point, it is a game, and I do like the occasional rules, eg. no baseraping, no artillery on UCB, etc., but it also should be fun and less stressful. No way do I want anger and stress in my time of peace, the real world gives me enough of that.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, no seatswapping? But you like wasting/abusing the power of a commander by rolling out in a tank or other vehicle?

                    Well,
I usually play on lower populated servers,
Where a commander is sometimes the only one capping bases. When your teamates are useless and you are the most active player on your team.

Sorry I did not clarify that.

What's fair about no seat-switching? Does it stress you that others have mastered a technique that allows them to effectively engage the opposition independently from you or others on the team with a propensity for trees and/or chainguns?

                        Ok,
Most servers I play on HATE seat swapping, that does not mean I am not good at it, I have spent several hours behind a chopper and have mastered the technique. Believe me, if I am allowed to seat swap I will gladly do that over taking a noob gunner who can't use missles. I love seat swapping and would do it much more, but I thought most of the BF2 crowd was against it, that is my bad, and I completely think seat swapping is fair, but most servers are against it, and I have been banned several times for doing it, I will edit out seat swapping on my posts!

A lot of servers are against soloing and yet, can't justify their decision using any facts or logic. It's all based on their "feelings" about seat-swapping being an exploit, or cheating...

Nevermind actually demonstrating why it is so. They can't because that's not the case. But anyway, yeah, a lot of servers forbid you to do it on threats of kick/ban.

                            1) BF2 IS a war simulation seeying though the term simulation is described as the act or process of pretending; feigning... which is EXACTLY what BF2 is..

                            2) if we went by the real rules of war it would make for a completely different game all together.. i was generalising depending on individual situations..

Ya people who suck at this game ruin it. Liek no bunny hopping rules.....etc
Admins who suck at the game find what ever kills them and try and take it out of the game. Patch 1.2 was the best and the game should have stayed that way(c4 tossing!!!!)
