Where's the Relaxation?

Well, I feel this is more prominent in Call of Duty 4 than any other game. I find that, unlike games such as Battlefield 2/Crysis/WiC, it's extremely difficult to play CoD4 with any mindset other than to dominate.

Let me explain myself. In Call of Duty, I can't put on my music, join a server, and expect to have freedom to play how I'm feeling. Example: I come home from school and just want to play a nice game - but it's often impossible because I'm constantly having to put in 100% of my focus to avoid being constantly killed. This gets especially frustrating with the spawns - I'll spawn, get killed, repeat - and the vicious cycle begins to play on my nerves.

Now, this isn't frustration to the max - where I'm all angry and what not - but it's just that I can't seem to play the game at different paces - something that I felt I had more freedom to do (by the way, please no responses of "go back to the other game then you n00b) - Call of Duty is an amazing game and I love playing it [most of the time] but I just wish there were a way to play it at a less competitive pace.

Does anybody else feel the same?

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think you'll find any relief any time soon. If that's what you're looking for out of CoD4, you'll probably only find it in single player mode. *shrug*

example: Desert Combat - Basrahs Edge. It's a small map but it was still possible to just c4 a major artery and sit back and turn on the tv next to the computer and glance over at the TV every once in a while.

with CoD4 you can't just find a corner and hold a walkway. The spawnpoints change all the time.

Depends on where you are going to play your game.

The maps are small and designed for instant action. IW said so themselves. That tells you right there you are not going to get some rest.

I believe it was Whiskey, may be wrong, that mentioned the maps were designed for 28 and less players. You go on a higher player server, you have a map that is LOADED with people wanting to kill you.

You want some fun and relaxation? Play another game noob!!!!111!! Just kidding. Find a smaller server or servers with some larger maps, like pipeline and ambush. Play an FFA server, because then if they move, you kill them and everyone is focused on everyone else and not just you.

I dont know, mix it up some.

Yes, sometimes a server is just too full or crazy and you gotta leave it.

I`m starting to get the same feeling too. Just like it was with AA, I can`t enjoy myself if I`m not in the lead or with the best fr in the server. It`s either those two, or I leave the server pissed.
It always starts out with me having just fun but the second a new match starts and I get the first few kills, it`s all about dominating and getting pissed at the slightest things.

AA, CoD4 and UT are the only games where I get this bug.

its so much easier to put on some music, load up FH2 and just sit back and pop off a few rounds occasionally or mine up some roads without getting shot through every single wall.

even BF2 and 2142 let you hang back and relax and still be able to enjoy yourself, still its nothing wrong with cod4, its just a different game that you have to play in a different mind set.

BF is so slow when you've played CoD4 for a while, I get what you're saying. CoD4 is best played in short sessions imo - thankfully the game loads really fast so it's not a problem doing something else for a while :)

I don't think I said 28 specifically, but in essence I agree...the maps were designed for smaller server numbers (maybe 16 or less total players - the numbers seen on Consoles), which is why many on PC complain about how servers of 20-30 or more players are often just too chaotic.

To K0dak - I agree as well. The game is so fast-paced, and the weapons so powerful/accurate, if you want to do reasonably well, you have to be "on" at all times. A simple mistake or lack of caution will get you killed faster than a lot of other FPS's out there. It's hard to play casually, unless you don't care at all about your ratio/helping your team win, or don't mind dying a lot before you can even go very far.

Ive come to a conclusion that this is what separates the Gun Fu people from the target practices. They play constantly with their switch "on". Personally, I find this awfully exhausting and downright hard. You need to be on your toes at all times to rise above the others and truly dominate. The exceptionally good players Ive come to known play with this mindset as if it was part of the game and they have fun while they are doing it.

Personally, I cant do this on a regular basis. COD4 is bad enough, but POE2 infantry combat is far worse, in that aspect. Its a fast paced infantry combat aspect coupled with severe damage from bullets and it will punish you and kick you in the nuts every time you do a tactical mistake.

i agree with you, other games i have on both pc and 360, i just mess around in, but in CoD 4 i just can't play relaxed, always serious, maybe because of the constant stats idk.

It's not all about being "on". You have to be "on" and you have to have a good aim as well - being aware of everything all the time won't help you squat unless you can respond to it accordingly.

I do not find CoD4 to be frenetic at all. I come from FEAR so I'm pretty much used to the pace (as are CS players probably).

That's why I like BF2. I mostly play in choppers, so the pace is already slow and tactical...

I can just listen to music and fly around. :)
