I feel impelled to write a chopper thread..

Are you f*ckin' serious? :hmm:There is, and I kid you not, a new hack out there - continuous choppers. It was on Ambush, ranked server, and this one player kept calling in chopper after chopper, one after another. I was on the mounted MG on the USMC side, and I'd kill the helo after just a few seconds...moments later...another shows up from the same player. After 3 or 4 in a row, we started keeping track of the "___ killed ___" messages...choppers would come in from the same player without reaching 7 kills.
I normally don't participate in kick voting without a good reason, but it was satisfying to punt that guy. It was quite the experience. Hopefully this one isn't very widespread.
COD4 is already a love/hate thing for me. This could turn me off completely if it becomes widespread...Comment

Thank you for correcting him, I was about to, until I got to your post.I really hate to be the grammar nazi, but Impelled/Compelled is my pet peeve.
Impelled needs an object after it. I was impelled by this thread's title to grammar nazi.
Otherwise you need to use compelled. I felt compelled to act like a grammar nazi over this thread's title.
Compelled is especially perfect, since your tone is forceful - where as impelled denotes passivity.
*Twitches and goes back into his corner.*
I foresee my future Teaching English... and it's a sad - sad future indeed.Comment

I just wish we actually had MORE maps. And more maps that are played mroe often. I'm sick to death of Crossfire, Bog and maybe pipeline, followed by a vote to go back to Crossfire. Lets play some other maps guys?
But the heli has it's place. I was on Bog last night and seriously got RAPED by the other team. It was a chopper after chopper spree. But that's nothing I haven't done myself on occasion.
What I hate about the chopper is there is no restriction on where it can shoot. If there are 3 guys in view, it can hit all 3 at almost the same time. WTH? The gunner doesn't even need to aim his cannon, he has super 90 degree turning, heat seeking shells.
Tone that down a little and it would be great. However I love it when it works for me.
I'm better with the Air strikes though.

The helicopter only kills me when I'm in the top 5 on my team (out of 25 people) and that doesn't happen very often. I get more annoyed with the air strikes. Because they're so easy to get, it's sometimes non-stop air strikes in certain places.
It's still not annoying enough for me to get fed up with it. I only play 50 slot servers so I got used to spawn camping and found ways to counter it or take advantage of itComment

No matter how much skill I know is needed to play this game at a high level, it really is hard for me to defend it as a legit tourney game because of crap like airstrikes and helo attacks.
By themselves, they are a unique and interesting aspect of CoD4 that is somewhat similar to super attacks in other games like Command and Conquer, Dawn of War, etc. That is a good thing. What is a terrible thing though is how easy they are to get in CoD4. In the other games I mentioned, you pretty much only see them at the end of the game and maybe just once or twice. Who here hasn't been in a match where airstrikes are pretty much dropped nonstop by one team, before two minutes have even passed?
I am not saying we should get rid of them entirely because then the game just wouldn't be CoD4. What is needed is some kind of reasonable nerf so the game is still decided by the team with the most skill and not just whoever got the airstrike first.
My suggestion is to put a cooldown on how often a player can call, or more ideally, how often the team can call them. You can still call them if you play better, but you just can't call them one after another. Another thing would be to up the requirement to get them in the first place. Getting an airstrike after five consecutive kills is a joke. Double that requirement and we'll have less ridiculous matches. Also, the kills from one airstrike should not count towards the next one. Who thought it would be a good idea to have them combine in the first place?
The only potential downside to all this is it might cause players to camp even more. Now whether that's a good or bad thing is another issue entirely.Comment

At the same time that I love CoD4 there are things I hate...
One of them being the choppers that usually are no trouble but all of a sudden kills me the whole time when I'm at the top of the scoreboard... So annoying.
I guess it's to give the nubs on the bottom a chance but, come on.
But it really is way too easy to get. I usually get 2 or 3 airstrikes and choppers most rounds I play, and I mean I'm no pro.Comment

Martyrdom and last stand for the "less skilled" players. Air strikes and helis for the "more skilled" players.
Its all a balancing act. I was on a server about a month ago that had their chopper turned off. It came out, sputtered a bunch, like it had a cough, and then went away.
Dairuka, I agree with the league match thing. Not to mention the fact that leagues can specify rules to have items turned off, such as martyrdom or helis or even the GL.
Anyway, interesting tally. Ive never paid attention to who won when the heli came out, but I will a bit now, just to see what the outcome is.

This is why I hate teams being uneven, especially at the beginning of any given round.
Which leads me to what CoD, CoD:UO, and CoD2 had with autobalance, CoD4's AB needs to give a player that's trying to join a team with one more player than the other team the good old, "Team1 has too many players, try joining Team2."Comment

Gross, you know thats not going to happen because then what will others have to talk about?
Next you will be talking about turning on Friendly Fire to stop grenade spams and martyrdom.

99% of players don't play in leagues.Originally posted by DairukaIf you can get 7 unanswered kills in a 5 vs 5 or 10 vs 10 league match, you deserve that helicopter.
75% of players aren't in clans :|:
It's my opinion that the "fire special weapon" buttons in any games make it just plain stupid. Choppers and airstrikes (if kept) need to be limited per team and maybe even change the way they are received. On objective based maps - make it based on points earned towards completing the objectives (for example).
I have a great time getting involved in COD4 until I hear (enemy chopper inbound) and then I usually just hide in a corner and complain to myself how arcadish the chopper is.Comment
