    Should i buy???

    Hey guys,

i am looking for a new FPS to replace battlefield 2142.
i was looking at COD4 and it seemed ok. so my questions are:

    Is it worth getting?

Is its game play similar to BF2 & 2142?

Is its squad play up to a high standard?

    thanks guys.

(i have never played a COD game before)

    Yes.

Kind of similar, but not really. Smaller maps, faster paced and no vehicles. I played 2142 before getting this, and I love it.

Squad play isnt as good as Battlefield. If you can get a group of people on TS, it can be good though. But no, not up to Battlefield standards.

The singleplayer is also fantastic. So immersive, great story.. Yeah.

No, I wouldnt worry about CoD4 much, its mostly hype. There are better FPSes out there, Im sure.

As I love both CoD4 and BF2142 I'll go ahead and answer too:

          Is it worth getting?

          Overall yes.

Is its game play similar to BF2 & 2142?

Somewhat. You point and click at people in both games, but while BF2142 has large maps with vehicles, CoD4 has no vehicles and small maps but instead pretty darn good infantry combat.

Is its squad play up to a high standard?

No can't really say that. Noone uses VoIP and that people are cooperating is rare unless you play Search & Destroy, which can be rather tedious sometimes.

Also, be prepared for excessive nadespam and wtfpwn Airstrikes and aimbotting choppers. It's still very fun though if you end up on a good server

Try the demo before you decide btw... It's singleplayer but you'll get a feeling of how the game feels like. Mod the controls if you want to (I've done it so it's similar to BF)

Call of duty doesnt promote squadplay in the same way Battlefield does, i.e. with separated squads with their own voip, no point bonuses for working with squadmembers, etc.

^^My point is that noone is using VOIP or cooperating in Bf2 so there are barely any standards when it comes to teamwork in Bf2

Make/join a squad called Teamwork or Voip and you can get a good squad going.

I love BF2, and I also love cod4. The gameplay is very different and after playing cod4 for a bit, it took like 5 - 10 minutes to get use to the BF2 gameplay again.

On the cod4 servers I play on (ones with more than 40 people) there's no need for squad play because there's just so many people.

Btw waaah_wah, I have to disagree with you. To me, it looks as if you don't play BF2 very much. On every server I play on there's always atleasy 2 - 3 full squads and I'd say 4 - 5 of the 6 people in each squad actually spawn on their squad leader. And, if the squad leader is in a tacticle position (like on the carrier as MEC) then ALL the members spawn on him. I also find lots of people use voip. A lot of times when I'm in a squad and I want to talk to my squad members, I use voip. I just say "Hey anyone got a mic?" and 2 or so people will respond and we'll talk to each other the whole round and help each other out.\

There's a lot of teamwork in Bf2, so I don't know what you're talking about.

                    Tried that too many times

But its probably easier to find ppl who use VOIP if your in the US or Canada since everyone there actually speak english unlike Europe where theres lots of different launguages.

Teamwork in Bf2 is pretty much nonexistant... I have only seen a handful squadleaders that actually try to keep the squad alive and together and use VOIP. If you join a random server i guarantee you that only around one out of 50 squads will be organised. In Bf2 i have personally never been in a squad where more than 3 ppl were using VOIP. And two of those were my friends:dead:

waaah can't seem to find the right servers

BF2142 has a lot more teamwork though... Join a squad and start talking and the others will catch up as well.

Personaly, i definatly prefer COD4, but that is because i played 2142 to death, and really wanted a new online FPS. But even if the MP was utter crap, i would still get the game for the amazing singleplayer.

CoD4 is a must buy for any FPS fan. It's a great shooter with a kick-butt single player. That's very rare! The MP is quite fun, too.

Have you looked into FFoW? It is more similar to Battlefield games, yet is different. It just released though, so they are working out some issues. I've been playing both everyday. I still play a little BF2, too.

buy it and you wont look back,

2142 has not been touched and still needs to be patched up to the latest, bf2 has not been touched either, save the occasional round of FH2 and PR
