Are all cars rigged with explosives?

You know what is interesting is that I have shot a car with an MP5. (reality precedes but sarcasm follows) It was hard to aim with my bomb-squad suit on but I still managed to hit it. I was very disappointed when the 9mm rounds of the MP5 failed to penetrate through the door. I could be mistaken however, because the glass was already shot out so perhaps the glass is the explosive trigger in real life that causes a car to blow up. Or maybe it was because I wasn't using expensive explosive-tipped bullets that we all know is standard issue in all military deployments including Spetsnaz and OpFor. Or maybe it's something simpler. Maybe it's because the car I shot at had a pressurized gas system that is only available in Russia and the middle east since they don't care about safety. Or maybe in those countries they use pure Trinitrotoluene for fuel which would cause such a violent reaction when fired upon.
Seriously though I've shot at a few cars with not only an MP5 but also using higher caliber weapons (please keep the americans-with-guns comments to the off-topic section...if you have a friend in the demolition business he'll let you shoot the cars in the desert before he crushes them).
But maybe I'm missing the point. Maybe I've made a fool of myself because you actually agree with me and you're just being sarcastic because you know what happens when you shoot a car with an mp5 (results in nice round hole where the bullet strikes).
Or maybe I'm even a greater fool and you're actually responding to someone else in the thread and I've just gone on a rant and p!ssed someone off for no good reason when in otherwise normal forum matters we'd be the best of friends.
The fact of the matter is: If you HAVE shot a car with an MP5 - you'd agree with me.
My apologies if I've acted a fool. The fact is that I've shot a car with a 9mm bullet and I have not seen the behavior in Real Life as exhibited in Call of Duty 4.
Besides - the thread wasn't really meant to be serious but an interesting observation. The replies were supposed to be witty and fun - not an argument of ballistics. I'm just not running on a lot of sleep and thus the tone of my post. I'm not being an *** when I say I hope there's no hard feelings. I've never dealt with you on these forums so I'm not really sure where you're coming from :)Comment

Point taken. In my first post I mentioned the argument of reality vs. fun factor. Again - it's really just a sarcastic (but real) observation.
It's just that I would prefer them to be implemented as light cover instead of explosive booby-traps.Comment

I've also shot vehicles with all manner of weapons up to .30-06. I've also shot all manner of "explosive" containers as well. And I'm not form the 'States.
The best result? Lit road flare next to a Cadac 3 kilo gas bottle.
Word of advice, be at least 100m away. It's a big fireball, and shrapnel can travel
In all seriousness I was looking forwards to Hitman/I am Legend style gas bottle explosions, and couldn't understand why the didn't pop when I shot them in COD4.
Still the cars make good, if unbelieveable, explosions. For best results combine with airstrikes :)
It is over the top, but it is fun, and it hardly ever kills.

It's not a custom map, it's a stock one, but i forget what it's called. It basically has like a market in the middle where to sets of stairs from either side of the level descend to.Comment

Citystreets is the map name... aka "District" in-game.
Cars explode in CoD4 because of Hollywood's evil influence. :drevil:Comment

It's not each map, there's only a "second" name for Wetwork (cargoship), District (citystreets), Ambush (convoy), and Downpour (farm).
It's likely that the "config" names for the maps were the original ones, and then the devs and marketing decided that some of them just didn't fit so they renamed them. But since the code was already set, they didn't go back in to fiddle with it, as any change to a game introduces risk.
Unless you actually run a server, it's background info that the vast majority of players never see and never have to worry about.
Back in the MOHAA days, each map had a "proper" name (ie. Stalingrad, Southern France, etc), but the "config" names were things like dm_mohdm2, dm_mohdm7, etc. This is a fairly common thing in gaming.Comment
