Are all cars rigged with explosives?

Seriously, I understand the argument of fun factor vs. realism, but why do cars blow up in CoD4 if you shoot at them enough?

Why does every game have red explosive barrels that enemies hide behind? Simply because it's awesome!

Yeah, really. What's up with that? Didn't the devs see that episode of Myth Busters where they busted the myth of the exploding car by shooting sniper rifles at the gas tank?

I can accept that.

But it's still kind of ridiculous. What would be cool is if:

• Cars retain bullet holes in glass and body
• Shooting a tire results in dropping that corner of the car lower to the ground
• Although soldiers have the ability to crawl under cars, shooting the tires to force the car onto their bodies would kill them
• For those who love explosions - put some tanker trucks in there that affect the environment (crater blown out surrounding walls)
• Have some disabled technicals with mounted MG's for people to jump in.

Additionally - why are there no gas stations in CoD4 MP?

ah. well then they should put the petrol stations on maps people actually want to play.

but they shouldn't explode - just leak liquid fire so if you're in the way you have to run around for about 15 seconds on fire and anyone you touch dies too after 15 seconds (chain reaction anyone?)

I think theres a gas station in District as well or some other heavily urban map.

Besides, the cars are there to help you. I've gotten a few kills thanks to their nature of exploding.
