Commander, lowest Rank in BF games

I find the commander in the games BF2, BF2142 the lowest form in the games, than reality. In the game they get treated like garbage from other players. For most part, their is no place in the game for the commander. For examples, no rooms, no chair. They have to find their holes, even in the game titan mode in the titan. Then some squads refuse to follow orders. And if so, some squad members are scattered about on the map in a squad alone. Then if you are commander, and do find your hole, Doing your best, you find out you been removed from being a commander from a higher rank. Then next thing the team is losing and commander is flying around.

Thats cause Commanders are no more than Garbage... Move to this position! Attack this position! Repair my assets! Move, orbital strike! UAV Recharging!

I don't want to move out to the middle of nowhere, I don't want you to re-issue the order that I just issued to my squad, I don't want to defend a position half way across the map from where me and my squad are... When I want a UAV, turns out the commander has already used it in a place that its not useful. When I want the enemy walker dead, turns out the commander just dropped his orbital on a bunch of infantry, or he drops it on the walker but forgets to EMP it first.

In all honesty, I hate commanders. The amount of you who actually do your jobs is insanely low, and for that I resent you all. There are like 2 commanders who I will follow, and thats it. If you want me to be loyal to you, you have to earn it.

Let's face it, most commanders suck, yours truly included in the sucky set. I know I suck in commanding, so I command rarely.

However, there are good commanders out there, and they do make difference even squad leaders don't follow their orders. I've played with a very, very good commander who talked to SLs via VOIP. He told me what to do and what not to do, and updating situation via VOIP. HE'S TOTALLY AWESOME!

The problem with commanding is that there are only limited resources, and things can happening quick and simultaneous on big maps such as Sidi and Minsk. It seems to me that there are two schools of commanding: one running around do front line thing, while the other finding somewhere to hide and spending most of the round looking at boring screen. Both are fine depending on the situation and map if they all do things right.

Good squads are the key of winning a match. Commanders have only that much influence on a match. However, when both teams have squads of similar capability, a suck commander vs a good commander can be the factor of determination.

Commanding isn't actually commanding in the sense your telling people what to do. Generally the actually commanders are going to be the squad leaders.

The commander himself is more of a two part job. Part one is being an intel/recon ***** for your squads, telling them of enemies ahead of there positions or coming for them, telling them where the the holes are, and so on. The other part is being the squad leaders personal slave with your powers. A good commander wouln't drop an arty on 20 people if it doesn't directly benefit his team outside of the kills. He'll save it for taking out a walker/apc allowing a squad or two to break through can cap some back bases or something similar. A good commander doesn't UAV the choke point he does it where it will benefit the squad/squads trying to cap things out in the middle of nowhere who could fail miserably if they don't get that support, but could win your team the game if they succeed.
Its about serving your team, not them serving you.

The big problem is people want the commander awards which means playing selfishly and for points. Taking out an APC with 2 dudes in it with your arty gets you alot less points than dropping that arty on say a cluster of people at the chokepoint, regardless of how much more taking out that apc helps your team. Actually alot of things in this game are like that when it comes to awards, and thats a big point of playing for alot of people.

Commanders don't get points for killing people with OS, so whether he nukes a two-man APC or a six-man infantry unit it doesn't matter to his score.

Dude, even the moderators spam now... What is this world coming to?

And yeah, Wolfgang is right. Orbitals give you nothing other than a Combat Efficiency of a DCE for killing people. The commanders main goal should be to win at any cost.

I could have sworn, that OS kills counted towards overall command score...

Nope. Same theory has been around since the days of BF2's arty strike, but like Fingulfin said at least in this you can use OSes to get kill streak pins so in a roundabout way you can get points from OSing a lot of guys, but those aren't considered command score.

Been a commander many times, and every time, I really do my best to please my team. As if I have to buy them a hard shot drink after a round if all goes well, to commend my effort "You did awesome Commander". Only once I was removed during a command round, from a higher rank, then we lost. I was really ticked off. I did get my award, and wanted to leave it at that, so when the time comes to command I will take the place when needed, but not for points, only for the glory of winning for the team. My next Command Rank is at 4000 (Gold), and I feel that will take forever. I dis the feel of doing the best you can, and your team calls you down to the other team. Never happened to me yet, but I have seen it. I always have to find a hole, because some servers disagree with commanders in combat, and flying. I agree with that rule, and does make sense. Once a commander is in combat, and loses his, or her life. That commander should be replaced by another immediatly. Asking for help from squad leaders on a battlefield, and commander is fighting with team, slows things down. The feel of being a commander is very low in the BF games. Do not think it will get any better anywhere in any games.

Don't worry about your team... My opinion on teammates is much like my opinion on commanders. Kill the enemy, hold the flags and REVIVE. Thats all that matters... When I command I fight. If you don't like it, thats too bad! I don't go to the front lines, I normally hang back and play Engineer. You know, motion mine the roads leading to the back bases...

One of my nastier commander tricks involves the enemy FAV when playing as EU on Camp G. I place EMP Mines (but no Motion Mines) along the Path from Toll to Ruins. Then when the enemy FAV comes through they hop out when they get EMPed and start running toward the bases. I deal with the enemy, then hop into the FAV and drive it into Central Camp. I then proceed to command from inside Central and inside the FAV... Robbing the enemy of their transportation :p

Join a clan, join a teamwork server. Problem solved.

And also in clan matches there's lots of teamwork and huge or small matches.

I find you have to earn respect while commanding. Good squads on good servers will appreciate all that you do for them, and that is the pickle, isn't it? It's a rare day indeed that good squads with good leaders act synergistically with a good commander. It's magic when it happens and sheer chaos when it does not.
