New computer, like a whole new game

As some of you might have noticed, I haven't been on in a long time... this is due to having no PC, but now I have a shiny new one, specs:

Intel (I feel like a traitor) E6750 2.66GHz with a 4MB L2 cache
8800GT 512MB
2GB RAM (woulda had 3 but I can always add more later)
A nice fatty 700 watt PSU
And a "small" 160GB hard drive (I've never had more than 80, so this is a lot for me)

The game runs well with all settings maxed, and it's absolutely beautiful!

It really is a whole new experience, especially on the ship on the first level when the heli attacks and there's the explosion and omfg I can't type fast enough to keep up with my brains!

I... actually have pretty much the same computer, but I dooon't have a 8800, and I have a 400GB HD. :P

should have got a 45nm cpu, i think its the E8400 that is the bang for the buck right now. It may have actually been cheaper then the one you bought which you could have put towards a 780i mobo =)

A fast PC with a good-to-great video card makes a BIG difference in FPS gaming. Yrs back when I first started playing MOH:Spearhead, I did ok, but would often get killed by people far away because I couldn't see them properly (they looked like a rock or shadow at distance). Once I got a better card (back then), and cranked up my settings and resolution, my game improved at least 50%, without exaggeration.

I can see this being important with COD4 as well...due to all the amazing eye-candy available, it's very easy for players' camo to blend in with all of the background details. Mini-map is an important tool, but you also need to be able to visually notice things like snipers and such.

It's definitely a factor.

Yeah, an upgrade is like a ray of light. After I upgraded I put everything on full and enjoyed the beauty of it all... then I lowered the settings again to get even better FPS. Very Important in MP.

Also as important as the main case is the mouse and keyboard. When I migrated from wireless MS keyboard and mouse to a G15 keyboard and G5 laser mouse, my game improved 100%... you'd never guess it, until you actually do it. Oh, and an everglide mousemat. I never thought I'd spend so much on a mouse-mat, but man, does it make a difference. You can't even feel the friction... every nuance of your hand is reflected in game.

im still using a crappy 8800gts 320mb. although its the xfx triple x oc'ed version so it's not so bad. runs everything i own at awesome fps and i can even play crysis with very high settings on xp at 1024x768 and still maintain about 25-30fps average and higher in other places. cod 4 runs at over 100fps average online with max settings with i think 8x AF (not exactly sure because of the retarded slider) and no AA at 1280x1024 (i don't need AA to enjoy the game).

oh come on. why does everyone do that? people call my video card crappy and as soon as i say it's crappy they scoff at me like its not and act like i'm just complaining or something of the sort. the video card is worth only about $100. i can't get rid of the damn thing. i tried, no one wants it. it's cursed or something. i only have the money for the 8800gt if i sell my gts first. i don't have $300 to just spend on a new video card, because i just dropped down $600 on my new cpu, motherboard and memory in september (well worth it btw). someone is probably going to say im ranting or complaining about not having money enough for a new video card too. flame on...

Mine performs the same as a 8800gt. I has it OC'd to a 640mhz core, 1000mhz RAM and i can't remember what i got the shaders to. Get some manual overclocking going. Agreed, stock, they aren't that amazing anymore, but a lot better than most people have at the moment.

Switching to my 8800GT Computer was a great choice. The deagles are shinier, the Depth of Field is more realistic, and it's absolutely smooth to play even with higher settings.
