Clan's who ask for people not to use features, should be unranked

Going through the server list, I occasionally come across servers that have "No Marty/Toob" written on the end. On joining these servers there are clear messages that anyone using Marty or Toob will be kicked. This is never an issue for me as I use neither.

Okay, they pay for their server and they're free to apply their own rules. But I think that they should be unranked.

Hmmmm, Im torn on this one. I agree with what you said, but there have been situations in the past where we turned our server into a specific server because GQPublic asked if they could.

Some time back a group asked if we can do knife-pistol only for a round. We said if everyone agrees, we will. Everyone did. So we did it and anyone new coming in, we told them we are playing a round of knife pistol only. Sometimes they left, sometimes they joined in. We had a shotgun day as well. Some other clan came in and was having fun and one asked if it could be shotty only? Everyone wanted it, so sure.

Of course, that was all temporary and not a 24/7 shotty only thing. My overall opinion is that it should be unranked and they should just turn the features they dont want, off.

I have other thoughts on all this as well, being a server owner, and the lack of "official" documentation on setting up servers from IW, but I think you get the idea.

Now I see no issue with this. You had a bit of fun for a bit with knife-only, not 24/7. And I bet if there was a console-command to unable disable ranking you'd have used it (otherwise it's a knife-kill stat pad! :)), but I don't believe you can do this, so there's not much you could have done short of taking the server off line briefly which would be inane.

And I just noticed...

I didn't mean The Clan, I meant the Server. Whoops :) But you guys knew that, right? Right??

LOL, I figured you meant configuration as a whole.

And you brought up another good point, to make some changes, you have to take the server offline. I actually had a request a few times if we could turn off hardcore next round. I would if I could, but I cant (Actually, I can, but I wont because then the server dies.)

No, they are (in my experience) making, because you get kicked if you use it. That's making someone do it. If they could switch it off and remain ranked, they would.

we had a knife only fight the other day. There were 8 of us on the server at the start IIRC, and after a couple of short commings we managed to get everyone to stick to knives. It was mad fun. It wasn't stat padding or anything, and it was for one round.

Eventually there were 12 guys on each team stabbing away. (In a stat padding moment I got my 3 knife kills in a row, but that was incidental).

Then some moron rocked up with his red dot M60 and spoiled the fun.

In games like battlefield where theres an official ranking system where the rank system is fully protected then use rules like this were servers that enforce rules that stop players using certain features should be put in place. But the ranking system in CoD4 in my opinion is pretty crap so why whine about a server being ranked or not? .

Sorry, but I am not "whining", I wanted to invoke a discussion on it :).

Okay, so the ranking system isn't fully protected like BF2's was. I'm just saying that if you apply rules to a server which stipulate that using a perfectly legitimate feature of the game will get you kicked; you should not be running a ranked server.

What difference does it make whether the server is ranked or not when theres only like 2 people in the world (minor underestimate) that aren't rank 55 already? . There's no official ruleset from IW so there's nothing to enforce, IMO all if not most servers on CoD4 should be ranked!

I am one of those two people :) I moved to the US and bought a new PC and didn't bring my config with me (my bad), so I am at 32 for the time-being :P

I for one agree here, most if not the entire COD4 playing population is lvl55...so a rakned server is of no consequence. In fact I personally never saw the need for this game to be played in a ranked server environment to begin with. IMHO, people who play this game and rent a server should be able to do whatever they like and play whatever they want and limit what they want.

When I join a server I play for the most kills....thats it! after reaching lvl 55 and gaining all unlocks and perks...ect....the "ranked " system lost all flavor for me...now i gauge my game by what place i finish the game and kills...like all old school game that came before any "ranked" system. I think BF2 ruined me on ranked servers.

Xtreme, thats a very good point. IW made the rank system weak on purpose. To be honest, I dont see much reason for a "ranking" server either, especially since our ranks are stored on our own machines. Our computer should be the ranking system, not the server saying it is.

That would really explode the mod community as well.

Exactly, and I for one was and still am hoping that this game will explode with many mods as possible...look at the original ghost recon for instance...huge hit when it was released and look at the hundreds if not a thousand mods that came after for it. Heck there are still 100 or so servers people are running on game spy as we speak playing that game...and no ranking system.

So yeah COD4 I totally support the mod community for this game..keep em comming guys....
