I was reading through the excellent How to Lead a Squad thread and it seemed to be quite a debate. I did a search for this but came up with nothing. I'm new to this board so forgive me if it's been posted. Just trying to learn.

Yeah, I'm new to the game so I never get to be SL, but it is nice to be able to grab his pack and revive him if he goes down.Comment

A respectable squadleader enhances his chances of survival while staying as functional as possible. You can identify a good squadleader if he uses one of the following kits
-Anti Tank
-Medic
-Support
There are extremely rare exceptions, like
-Sniper (See Johnny*5, Ive only seen him pull it off)
-Assault (my bud used it, he was a long G-Launcher shot sniper, aswell as an exceptional infantry grunt so he already had a high chance of survival)
-Spec Ops (back in the good old C4 frisbee days)Comment

I just about always go spec ops. When you're invading a main base, it's really helpful to put c4 on all the tanks and apcs... or helis and jets depending. The g36c will bring down any infantry that gets in your way, and the silenced pistol is good for killing a stragler without revealing your position.
As far as medic goes, that seems like the squad member's job. See, usually I let them spawn, then I tell them to get the hell away from me. So naturally the medic should be at the flag with the others, and that's not a great place for the SL to hang out.
If I'm not spec ops I'm AT. Plain and simple you gotta be able to kill vehicles. AT is great for getting helis out of your hair, and for killing armor from cover. AT doesn't have the best gun though. They're all so bad, I just use whichever stock weapon is available.
I can see how it might be useful for a SL to be medic, but it's not gonna help you much when an apc has you cornered. Maybe, just maybe... if you have some competent squad members they'll revive you, but usually they don't even know how to pick up a kit.Comment

Do you even need the gun when you have 5 big AT missiles?!Comment

dude, you have to be either anti-tank or engineer. Preferably engineer. Especially in infantry only mapsComment

Realy depends on squad to me and their kits but I always try to stay sniper so I can cover troops as they use me for a spawn to cap flags or medic if we're rushing for the last 1 or 2 flags so I can keep everyone up but I still keep a distance the last I use is spec ops but theres almost always a spec guy in the squad. I don't do support unless I'm PLA or MEC then that's a whole different story.Comment

Wow. First the heli thread, and now this "green" gem... you're obviously not a competitive player with any kind of tactical knowledge if you truly think every kit has the same value for a Squad Leader to use. Why don't you just sit back and let the big boys discuss this stuff? Maybe you'll learn a thing or two.
You see, that was a prickish comment.

Sniper.
Stay out of battle, call spots, cover fire, stay alive in the general area of interest (will seem like you guys never stop attacking a point), and most of all, hidden (works in several squad based spawn games) (2142))Comment
