I can't wait for Clear Sky (the sequel, coming out very soon)...
I enjoyed it too, but it had a bit too much RPG element to it, and I found it tedious trying to gather up and move supplies around. I thought the environments/settings were very good though...things looked creepy and irradiated. The day/night transition was also a nice feature.

I thought that the Pripyat level was too hectic with all the uber-snipers though...it would've been nice to explore the whole thing as in previous levels.

Pity that the game took so long to come out...the graphics were amazing when we first saw the screenshots +5 yrs ago, but were dated when the game finally was released.

I've never played, you think it's worth looking into?

If you find it for a discount and you enjoy a healthy RPG element in your FPS game, then yes, it's worth a try. Just do be aware that it isn't a straight-up FPS game, so you have to spend time gathering supplies, using them, levelling up, WALKING long distances, etc. It will take quite a few hrs to complete, especially if you enjoy exploring. Also be aware that there likely aren't many people playing MP, so this will be mostly a SP experience for you.

My guess is that Cpt.Macmillan had a geiger counter.

Price had one too. If you had good ears, some parts of the mission had glancing traces of radiation, and the geiger was ticking slightly. Obviously, the areas with copius amounts of radiation would have the geiger going off and you slowing down to your death if you stayed there too long, with MacMillan scolding you at the same time.

In reality, the SAS would be really ignorant to not give two blackops assassins geiger counters when they're being shipped to Chernobyl of all places.

Ive been to Chernobyl visiting my relatives in Odessa. The guides tell ya to stay on the roads and not to stray off too far. Its got this eerie feeling about it, but its actually facinating...Didn't see any Snorks though. I was sad...Id keep one as a pet

Geiger counters won't shield you from radiation - but the Geiger counters used in the mission must have been set to a high level of sensitivity to not click throughout the two missions. Hey, just turn it on in an ordinary city like Sydney or London, and it will click to an extent.

Thats quite interesting Liberator29. Did you pass reactor #4? Its amazing what happened there, I have seen a video of an Mi-8 just flying into a crane, and plummeting...and aerial videos of hot graphite..

Chernoboyl always intrigued me. I get sad too, but It's a lesson for other countrys that radiation isn't something to mess around with (nor are nuclear reactors.)

Off topic a bit here, but did you guys hear the story of angie the chernboyl cat? It was fake but, it seemed possible for some reason to me. Radation screws stuff up. I can't seem to find any pictures of it, but the cat was as taller than a human!

They wouldn't let us near the reactor, the radiation levels are still far too severe to get that close (at least according to the tour guides). Maybe if we coffed up another hundred bucks we coulda got closer. Its nothing spectacular though there is a crude soviet built "sarcophagus" over the reactor so the only thing you can see is a giant concrete warehouse. The gov't just signed a deal with the US to replace that coffin with state of the art stainless steal one. According to them, pripyat will be habitable again within the next decade. Good news for my gramps he might get his old property back!

Wander off into the radioactive areas and you'll hear it.

You'd be safe from radiation, but utterly hammered for a bit.

                          Hell yes!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was an amazing game!!!! I would have cared for a bit more mutations running about though:laugh:

The real Chernobyl/Prypiat is amazing, the whole story and every aspect of it enthralling. I spent like 4 days just watching videos, reading info, and looking at it on Google Earth. Prypiat, the abandoned city that used to house 50,000, and now its just nothing. For those that dont know, i want to say the map Bloc is actually set in Prypiat, correct me if im wrong, they have it down though, even the swimming pool! The bizarre fact is that there are a few stragglers that actually still reside in the abandoned villages near Chernobyl. They simply refused to leave their farms, land what have you.

Everyone on shift at the Chernobyl plant reactor were sentenced to the stockade for the incident, needless to say, not many lived too long enough to finish their sentence.:shakehead:dead:

I think the Mi-8's rotors hit that wire, the wire seems to fall when the rotors hit it.
