Essentially, you consider time to be an omnipresent dimension which exists outside of all spatial dimensions. Exactly what it is numbered is unimportant, outside the fact that it is not classified as a spatial dimension.

When a reference is used to four-dimensional coordinates, it is likely that what is referred to is the three spatial dimensions plus a time-line. If 4 (or more) spatial dimensions are referred to, this should be stated at the outset, to avoid confusion with the more common notion that time is the Einsteinian fourth dimension.

If time is considered as the "fourth dimension", the additional fourth spatial dimension would be referred to as the fifth dimension. Alternatively, time can be considered as the 0th dimension, and all positive-numbered dimensions spatial.

Well, I mean like, whatever other dimensions are discovered (as a result of, say, string theory), would time would be added on to the end (So if the discover 2 extra dimensions, they would be recognized as the 4th & 5th, while time would become the 6th)? Or would it just be recognized as the forth, and any other dimension after that the fifth?

Edit: Ok I just saw Webs' argument that time is the 0th dimension, so I guess that answers my question. Really that'd make it the n-n dimension, huh? :p

I don't think the dimensions are "ordered" as such so talking about the first or last dimension doesn't make much sense.
The interesting thing about time as a dimension is that you can not move in any of the three dimensions without moving in time too.

But I like the idea of 4D portals. When you exit the portal you will see yourself just having created it, and be able to follow yourself around until your "first" self enters the portal.
Should be possible too, the game just needs to record your actions like Battle Recorder and other tools.

but now you are assuming that the 4th dimension IS time, which seems to be a bit of a debate among some members of the TGN community.

This game's portals uses the Tesseract theory otherwise known as the Fourth Spacial Dimension.

Otherwise, the game is merely 3D until you enter into a portal.
