BF2 Don't want to run

Hi people,

I'm new in the forum and if anyone can help I'll be very thankful. I installed BF2 on my pc normally: the installation went fine. But when I go to play, the EA video passes, the intro passes normally. But when It's for me to click in PLAY SINGLEPLAYER, after clicking this, simply the game closes and it goes back to my desktop :S... I don't kno what it is.. Does anyone have any clue on what it could be?

Processor: Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Video: ATI Radeon Sapphire X1550 256MB DDR2 (Core clock: 500mhz; Memory clock: 333mhz)
Windows XP Pro SP3 3300 (I also ran BF2 in XP PRO SP2 and still the same problem :S)
Memory: 2GB DDR2-667
Soundcard: HD Realtek Audio
HD SATA-II Samsung 160GB

Are you able to get to the graphics options within the game, if so try using low settings to see if that helps. I'm not sure if I remember this correctly but I think some folks had a similar problem when they had one of the voip programs installed too, although that may only apply to multiplayer gaming ?

I can't get even into graphics options. Look at this picture:



when I click in PLAY SINGLEPLAYER, it goes STARTING SINGLEPLAYER, then it goes to desktop and when you see, the game is closed :S. It was a clean installation, first time I ran the BF2 into this PC. I don't know if I have to install patch 1.4. I'm gonna do so and try it (maybe it's because the 1.0 version has no support for this X1550 Radeon or the dual-core support :S).

I've just had a quick look at the 'help' files on my pc. I don't know if this is going to help but I'd try anyhoo.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT

- In the event that you experience a problem with Battlefield 2, and
wish to contact Technical Support; a diagnosis file may have been
created to help resolve your problem. Check the following directory on
your computer to discover is the file is available:

\My Documents\Battlefield 2\dmp\

CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the
display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result
in a black screen being shown. To remedy this use the Windows
Explorer to find and delete the directory:

\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\

This will reset your game to the default settings. You can
now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust
the settings using the Menu as normal.

Yes.... apply the new patch anyway, I should have asked if you'd done that.

I patched BF2 to 1.4 version and still the same problem. :S When I click in START SINGLEPLAYER, it looks like it crashes and goes back to desktop with the game closed :S.

Don't know what to do :S.. I deleted the folder "PROFILES" in My Documents to reset settings but still the same problem. And about the folder DMP, there are lotsa files yeah, regarding to the crash. :S

Definitely, it's SAD that BF2 ain't supporting nor the Athlon 64 X2 nor the Sapphire Radeon X1550. Even the Counter-Strike: Condition Zero runs fine and normally here...

I don't know what to suggest really, have you tried the multiplayer game, does that work ?

Take a look at your task bar and trying shutting down any running programs, i.e antivirus, firewall etc.

What did the crash files say was causing the problem ?

Look what I found out in the last dump file (it's a SMALL PART of what's there, because actually you don't understand much, its like there must be a specific program to open this file):

By the way, I tried playing in MULTIPLAYER mode and logged in but when I log in, the same problem: it goes back to desktop and the game's closed ...
I got no antivirus here and the windows firewall I disabled...

That's more like it, Googling for an answer suggests that it's a graphics resolution problem, you need to alter 3 files on your pc :-

I had this problem too, only mine complained about 1280x1024@85Hz. In my search of a solution I've seen others with 800x600@60Hz. The problem is that something is telling BF2 to load a resolution that your monitor or video card doesn't support. In my case it was my new widescreen LCD.

That "something" is actually 3 files in the "C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" directory. In that Profiles directory are 3 folders called 0001, 0002, and Default. Inside each of those 3 folders is a file called Video.con. You need to open each of those 3 Video.con files and search for the line that says "VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x960@75Hz". Change all 3 files to a resolution & refresh rate that you know the monitor and video card support, and BF2 should work like a champ again.

I surely give up. I put "VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x720@75Hz" of the video.con just as I saw in what you found googling.

Putting this resolution (which I kno it works perfectly in my desktop) also trying both 60hz and 75hz, the game doesn't even go for splash screen: it goes to black screen then to desktop.

Give it another try using 800 x 600 @ 60 hz, if it doesn't like that then I'm stuck. Have you tried reinstalling DirectX ? Can you try another graphics card from a friend ?

Don't give up on BF2 without another go at fixing it, it's a cracking game !

I gave it another try using 800x600@60hz, downloaded DX 9.0c Redist_Nov_2007, installed the DirectX, rebooted, tried to put 1280x720@75hz and 1280x720@60hz and still the same problem.

Yeah, definitely, the white flag I stand up...

Delete the Battlefield 2 folder in My documents, that will put the game back to default settings.
Also check your version of Windows is up to date, eg: SP2, .Net Framework, etc

I started getting the same issue after i have purchased a logitech extreme 3d pro usb joystick plugged it in erased all the control inputs of the older one microsoft sidewinder (game port) and when i tried to play a multiplayer game on a server i saw my controls wasn't working as i set for the joystick then i disconnected and it when i tried creating a server on singleplayer it crashed to desktop. What could be the problem?The problem seems to be just on single player it doesn't affect multiplayer what the hell is going on?
