Just had a little run about on a server, and hid when the heli was up to see who it shot.

20 v 20 server.

Believe it or not, got the 1st placed player twice in a row...har har.

Other results were as follows 4th, 2nd 6th, 4th.

Had a blast and got heli myself, got the following reults, 4th, 6th, 8th and 17th.

Incidentlly when the 1st heli was up, it was opposition, I hadnt scored well, and it flew over me a few times, covering me with empty shell cases but not shooting at me (I wasn't shooting at it either, just to see what happened - as I have seen plenty other times what happens when you shoot at it.)

Defo reckon theres something to this - would need proper testing though.

First conclusions - top end of the leaderboard your a bullet magnet..... and making a massive assumption here as I didnt see it happen, but thinking the guy in the lower end that got shot, may have been shooting at the coptor.

Anybody else, had a looky.

I'm thinking my ego may in fact be safe :P

Had a few games recentlly on stock maps, and kind of having a sneaky feeling confirmed.

When the enemies heli is up and you are scoring well, you seem to be a bullet magnet for the heli.

Seen this so many times on kill cam now, where i'd be sitting in the top 3 score wise and running with a crowd of 3 or 4 guys across open ground, then be the only one picked off by the heli, even if I'd have better cover.

Dya think there is some algorithm somwehere within the helis code that selects the higher scorers to nail first.... or am I being mad paranoid :laugh:

If the helicopter is getting you down:dead: then go play on some OG servers. They play hardcore, a few different servers with different game modes. I know that {OG}s eXtreme Hardcore helicopters DO NOT ATTACK, they only hover and blow dust around, lol. I was playing there yesterday and thought the chopper was bugged but it turns out its a server option!:yay:

Personally i was getting annoyed, because the choppers ARE NOT hard to avoid at all for me, i hear "enemy chopper inbound" and i find cover, that simple. I kept getting chopper support, yet it WOULD NOT kill anyone, and i was like "wtf man!" So i asked and sure enough its a server option, so go frollick with no fear of the chopper in the OG servers...

I try to stay indoors when the enemy has a helo, but it always seems to shoot me through a tiny hole in the wall.

*Same with airstrikes, I get killed in the center of buildings :/

I hate hiding from a helo. I love to see my team win. So i always feel obligate to shoot at it or shoot it down. I'd rather get killed a couple times attacking a helo rather than seeing my comrades getting shot to pieces by it. I must have hundreds of helo kills under my belt, and too bad you dont get points for it.

what annoys me is the lmgers who can see the chopper overhead and dont shoot it. Ok i understand they dont want to use their bullets but in the long run its better for the team, infact:

all assault and 'support' weapon players should at least stick a mag into it, if everyone put 1 mag into the chopper it would be down straight away. and if you have last stand and a d-eagle stick all your bullets into the chopper too.

Yup... but most people don't look past their nose. I always put a magazine into a heli, sometimes more if it isn't obstructed by buildings or something else.

sure why not i suppose, but if youre in the open you are almost guaranteed to die ONE from the chopper, because it doesnt like you shooting it, TWO from some dude who sees you and is like "look at the jackass shootin the heli not watching his back".

Unfortunately, that's often quite an accurate description. Unless you're in a protected location with an RPG/LMG, or there is more than one of you firing on the chopper, it's sometimes prudent to just leave it be.

I do think there should be a constant XP reward for bringing down a chopper, like shooting any other opposing player. This would encourage more people to shoot at it.

Re the orignal question - the helo always finds me more often when I arm RPG, even when I am around a corner. Definitely a correlation.

For one thing, you're allowing the opposite team to cover more ground and take positional superiority, on top of deflecting responsibility to everyone else on your team...

It takes less than 5 seconds of cooperation to take down a heli. Try it sometime, instead of looking out for #1 and making it harder for your team to win. :)

Do silenced weapons not do anything to it? Ive taken a chopper down with P90 and it doesnt do a lot to it, I think it took most of all my clips and MAYBE someone else was shooting at it at first.

Are the smgs too weak for it? Distance thing? Silenced weapons too weak?

It's not only the pple with LMGs, 4 ppl with assault rifles can take a helicopter down in no time. The only weapons I wouldn't shoot at a chopper are a sniper rifles or SMGs and pistols.
