If your going to play Bf2 you need one of following Graphic Cards otherwise it wont start.

    Video Cards
Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards:
    Radeon X700 (PCIe)
    Radeon X600 (PCIe)
    GeForce 6600 (PCIe)
    GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe)
    GeForce 5800 Series (AGP)
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition
    ATI Radeon X800 PRO
    ATI Radeon 9800 Series
ATI Radeon 9600 Series--this is yours
    ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
    ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series
    ATI Radeon 8500 Series
    ATI Radeon X300 Series
    NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
    NVidia GeForce 6800 GT
    NVidia GeForce 6800
NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series--it works even on fx 5200 lol
    NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series
    NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series

so graphic card is ok.i think amd athlon would do fine 1.8ghz..
i think it will work..if your going to buy a whole computer then DONT.
buy piece by piece..you dont need many parts for gaming actually

your video card is pretty old, i think you'll be able to run it at low settings.

What do you mean with "it wouldn't work"?
Is it just to laggy or wouldn't it install or start?
You may not have enough RAM. I think you need at least 512MB and this is really the minimum. Everything from 1024MB upwards is good.
I would suggest to set graphics on low and if this works, try increasing the graphics step by step and just see what works best. Won't be much more than low though.

I used to run Athlon 2200+, 512Mb RAM, ATI 9600 vid card. Best to run on low settings to keep the FPS reasonable. Cheapest and most significant upgrade is RAM to 1Gb, or even better 2Gb.

Not really. that site should only be used as a loose guideline (very loose), as it is based on when a game was released and has no bearing at all on any performance/spec changes any updates made to said games.

Just for fun run it for America's Army and take a real good look at what it says the minimum specs are. Then go here and compare,

just how far out of whack it is.

In the absence of a reliable testing source I think it's still worth a look at by any budding would be BF2'ers, at least until someone else comes up with a better solution. Incidentally my old Dell system fell below the minimum requirements for BF2 on one or two counts, but I could still run the game albeit on low settings.
