    Strange Stuttering Issues

I just upgraded my computer (although more precisely completely rebuilt).

    Here are the specs:

    Intel Quad core 6600 2.4
    Corsair 2 GB DDR2
    8800 GT
    Vista 32-bit
    SB X-fi
    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
    500GB ATA Seagate HD

    Running everything on high 1600X1200

    Problem:

Everything seems to run fine at first. The framerate is silky smooth. But as I play it begins to "hitch" about every 30 or so frames on average. It's not lag as it kind of pauses then goes back to normal, as opposed to just being bouncy. I've noticed the hard drive light on pretty consistently. But my memory rarely goes above 80%.

Every other game on my system runs fine. Just not BF2.

    Things I have done:

All drivers and BIOS are updated.
    Tried WinXP compatibilty mode.
    Running with admin privilages.
    Minimal background programs.
    Reinstalled all programs.
    Updated PB.

Any ideas on what might be bottlenecking this thing?

What internet connection have you got?

Have you scanned your computer for viruses, adware, malware?

        Try defragging your hard drive.

Its BF2, the exact same thing happens to me. Pings are way down, running an entirely new PC also, and i get the same problem. Its not your machine, its BF2, i can run BF2142 fine without a stutter problem, try and run BF2 the thing jolts more times than a learner driver. Dont change ur machine its not the problem mate.

I did have a similar problem and found that my memory was set at the wrong speed in the BIOS. My not apply to you but worth a check.

Hi Painboy, I'm wondering if it's something to do with Vista's indexing service trying to access your drives as you're playing. You can disable indexing and see if it improves your situation.
Two common services are the biggest culprits for “disk churning” behavior in Vista, and they’ll be familiar from XP. Now, tame that disk access! A common complaint of users who have just installed Vista is that the disk starts churning endlessly. Any kind of frequent disk access on the same volume on which you have […]
