My question would be...did you play BF2 before BF2142? If you did you're spoiled because Claymores (BF2 version of APM) actually exploded and killed enemies regularly.
APMs are only really useful against new players, and older ones not paying attention. Any seasoned player that's conscience of APMs can get past all of them. :hmm:

2142 APMs used to be just as deadly... Till they got nerfed a few patches ago.

Seasoned players don't get past them if a noob barrels around a corner ignoring the crouching tentative-stepping player in front of him and get's them both nailed by the ensuing explosion :P Man there's few things more infuriating than that :shakehead

Heres a few tips that work for me:

            1) Around corners hidden are great, behind hall support in titan corriders that are covered with infantry, the enemy has to run down the hall "BOOM"

            2) Under or around enemy/freindly supply/medkits, where an enemy will run up to them.

            3) Ontop of or in place of enemy mines, when they come back to it they think its there own. (use the pickup kit button to pick them up and move them)

            4) Supply drops(great for RDX against vehilces)

            5) Under/on vehicles that enemys will use(tanks, walkers, fav etc)

            6) Airtransports the bays, when they switch positions or someone spawns, "boom"

            7) Dropping them from a transport in flight over large groups of enemy troops, great for rdx too!

            8) Outside your titan if its about to explode, everyones running to get out then.

            9) Right next to an enemy spawn beacon, they don't spawn laying down!

            10) Enemy assets that you destroy(RDX), when someone comes to repair it "BOOM"

            11) Next to noob(snipers) on your team that are getting knifed alot

            12) Jump points, any location that requires the enemy to jump over where a mine can be placed.

I don't know if its a bug or a feature, but its been like that since the beginning. Something to note is that things often "fuse" into the titan, such as IDSs, RDX, APMs, Beacons etc. So, when the titan is destroyed, all the things that have "fused" into it get a destroyed flag, and kill themselves.

Even after a titan is destroyed, RDX won't detonate on it. APMs work fine though, a favorite strategy of mine is to wait until a titan blows up and then place APMs at the exits. Another fun thing to do is when you are in the core room and a titan is destroyed, when you run drop a few APMs randomly. The defenders (for some reason) always try to bail out as well, giving you a few free kills when they trip over your little traps.

Drop them in totally random, yet well travelled areas. On the Titan you can place them on the cargo bay floor hidden behind the crates so the enemy will set it off as he runs around the boxes to enter the lower corridors.......or if you have podded up to the top of your titan, drop down the vent and go to the window that overlooks the upper part of the cargo-bay and put a mine in that little hidden corner. You won't know its there until you set it off.

Most of the seasoned players know that the entrances to the corridors are mined......so start working your way out of the titan.

next to someone you've killed so that when a medic comes to revive him, he gets taken out too. you forgot that one.

If you are sniper, you can place one on the silo where if he runs circles around the silo, he blows himself up. If he doesn't run about, you can out a bullet in his head easier
