Racism

Now, after playing on a random server, (clan), I came across racism and stereotyping. There were at least 12 people all bashing Mexicans (there were 2 latinos on the server so there is a fight going on). Now, I never experienced racism in games before so this took me by surprise. Imagine me playing and all of a sudden seeing all these racial slurs appearing before me. Now, since this was a good server, I stayed and tried to ignore it, but after 5 minutes, it just got crazy and I left.

Thought that was the end of that, but when I went to another server (pub) 3 days later, I see the message, "Is anyone here black?" Now, I thought that he himself was black and wanted to add another black buddy, but no. He proceeded to use the racial slur against blacks numerous times bashing them. He then changed his username into another persons and then repeated so to look like that that person said it. He then changed his name into MINE to make it look like I was the racist. (Note that he was stupid and forgot to capitalize the b in Blade so everyone knew he was doing it.) He was soon votekicked and I just sat there thinking,

This is just getting out of hand. I've encountered hacking, swearing, and glitching but never encountered racism in any game before this. Discuss.

I see (hear), rascism in CoD4 all the time on the PS3. Some stupid kids out there really enjoy that God-awful N-word, and they use it consistently. It really is annoying.

As for hearing actual sterotypes being said, is much more rare, but still present.

I've seen a lot of insults directed at Jewish people while adminning BF2 servers. It's sadly common, especially on large servers.

The first FPS I ever played online was MOHAA, and it was there (in small numbers) even back then (2001).

I would also think that a game like COD4 would unfortunately attract more of this type of player (more than a sci-fi game like say Quake or Halo) due to the strong feelings about the current situation in the Middle East, and those locations/factions in-game, which allow people to play out their twisted little fantasies. People with a lot of rage, and little self-esteem, who act tough online.

The internet is just an anonymous way for people to vent their frustrations in a no consequence environment. I'm not saying its right, but unfortunately it isn't ever going to stop.

Just sharing. However it is sad that people need to share their hatred online instead of keeping it to themselves and playing the game. I guess hatred and a sense of superiority against others will continue to linger for a long long time.
