IR goggles to make smoke superuseful

Anyone played R6V? In that game, youve got IR goggles, and you can smoke entire rooms, enter, equip the goggles and see through the smoke. While smoke in COD4 is mostly to cover movement, that idea would make the smoke grenades an awesome room clearing tool.

I fear that people would just spray their full auto weapons until they see a hit indicator, and then finish you off.

But even though they appear useless, I still see people use the NV goggles in killcam. I don't know why, some kind of glitch/cheat maybe?

Well, thats not really a bad part. Smoke in COD4 covers a large area, and IR goggles would basically give you the ability to smoke an entire street, jump in and rear-hump everyone from behind. Or slash them with the knife, whatever you fancy.

Because right now, in all seriousness. I dont see smoke being used that much, and snipers arent pissing me off either. Id assume it would work great as a distraction a´la BF2.

I meant I don't understand why they use it. I was wondering if some graphics cards/drivers might make enemies stand out in NV?

Its not that smoke is bad, its just that stun is better.
I use it in classes that have long range weapons because it allows me to cross camper-corridors. But for CQB stun/flash offers more.

Did you intend IR goggles to be a perk that replaces the NV goggles?

Does anybody remember the movie "Navy Seals"?
There was a scene where their sniper used a Barrett with IR sight to locate and shoot a target through a wall. That could be interesting in COD4

IR goggles as a perk is bad. Mainly because, navigating through smoke is a very rare deed and giving up a perk just for that, many people wouldnt find it useful.

The use of IR goggles and smoke is very well shown in Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Im surprised noone had picked it use in that game up yet. Because the concept is absolutely magnificent.

Id like IR/NV goggles to be a separate option, but that doesnt really work, as one would be a useful tool and another is never used. A whole new loadoutoption for possibly things like body armor, IR, NV, gasmasks (CS gas nades) and so forth, would be pretty sweet though.

I have never played R6, so I cant compare.
The reason I suggested it was a perk is because it would lose it usefulness if everybody had IR googles. If it is a perk then there is a bigger chance that the smoke user will be the only one with IR googles.

Alternatively it could be a attachment, so it was only available when looking through the gun sights.

IR vision, in any form would be horrible, what would be the point of even having smoke? the second you toss it everyone within sixty feet would turn on IR and the smoke would be useless.

I use NV ALL the time on maps like Vacant (indoors) and Wetwork. It just makes it easier to see the enemy, for some people. And you can just see stuff better.

That would probably make them very vulnerable to a flash

No it wouldn't, just make IR vision a perk (in slot one or it wouldn't work!!!)

a flash wouldn't effect IR, you use IR after you toss a flash to see the enemy since it's not effected by the light. It would effect people with NV though.

You can always work around the obstacles. Make it a perk (even though I dont like the idea), a separate animation (a 1-2 seconds animation of equipping/unequipping the IRV in which you cant shoot or do anything else). Theres tons of possibilities.
