I prefer softcore and I would like to register my disapproval to making softcore in pink colors as if its not "manly" enough. Its a game, to each there own

      I prefer normal mode.

I like my minimap, I like my crosshairs. The rest I can just ignore as it doesn't bother me.

Hardcore mode makes me feel lonely. I can't easily tell where friendlies and people seem to do their own thing.
Hardcore mode also slows down the action almost to the point where nobody bothers moving. Instead it mostly degenerates into a camping match because if anybody moves, they die.

      Normal just suits me best.

Hardcore. I've always felt that the very worst thing in every shooter is how the hell do they live through so many shots?! HC cures that, this in turn makes me happy.

Plus, the minimalist HUD and lack of crosshairs help me play. Like someone earlier said a big HUD is distracting and covers too much screen. Crosshairs are unneeded and distracting as well in a game where every weapon has some sort of sights. For games like CS:S it's somewhat required for long range AK shots to have a x-hair, but mine's real small.

Plus, there are less noobs. More asshats what with all the "no this, no that" stuff, but far far less people running around with GLs screaming allah akbar over voice chat thinking that they're funny.

Like most peeps here, I prefer HC. It plays a little slower. A little more tactically. People tend to work in pairs or together. Weps balanced.

On small server-sized games, like 3v3, its murder! Gotta be so careful. Great fun.

Hardcore, because it's endless fun. I like to go with a light machine gun w/ red dot, bandolier, double tap and deep inpact. Just shooting people trough walls is great and satisfying. I also get more head shots with assault rifles in hardcore.

Hardcore, because Hardcore isn't filled with P90s...

I only play S&D Hardcore, it's the most tactical gaming there and because you only live once people will think first about rushing to the enemy spawn and kill everyone from behind. Just because people like to do things slow in Hardcore or very fast in the first 30 seconds and after that clearing every corner of the map to look for those final enemies who play the game tactical.

In Hardcore i also noticed that players like to do army tactics in the game itself, going in a hall with al least two people and taking turns whoever needs to look around the corner and clear it. I just love that

(seriously ppl how often do you actually check how much ammo you got left in your mag. and if you want to see the team score just push TAB)
Softcore. No map and 1-shot kills makes hardcore camper heaven.
Take cover, evade, return fire? Not on hardcore, generally you are dead if someone shots at you.
And I like to know how much ammo I have left.

I still prefer to aim, even when using a SMG or shotgun from the hip.
Besides the cross-hair represents the sense of aim you get by pointing a physical object, which is absent from a game.
Removing the crosshair cripples the weapons that benefit from mobility and firing from the hip.

I still play hardcore on occasion, so its not like I hate it, but it don't see it as more l337 than standard, just different.

I like both - depends how the mood takes me

Love my sneaky m16 on HC - smoke move under cover, sneaky sneaky killathon

Also enjoy SC - with RPD grip and stopping power its like playing SC with a HC weapon - ROCK!

It depends on how many people are in the server for me. If the server has around less than 10 then I deffinatly enjoy hardcore more. But with a nearly full server its softcore all the way.

Hardcore all the way. Especially on servers with below 25 people. (never FFA though)

I prefer regular but I do play hardcore from time to time.

I pretty much play both modes in the same way, except I use cover a little more in HC, and I use quick movement and evasion techniques (yes, I do mean bunny hopping, dolphin diving and terrain jumping) more in regular.

I do however prefer to have my crosshairs, ammo counter, nade indicator and minimap. Like the aiming thing that Vreki commented on, they replace the senses which you cannot make use of in a game.

Plus, the weapon balance in HC is messed up.

I have played softcore for almost the whole time ive been playing CoD4, yet with so many people 'bigging up' hardcore, it seems i'll have to give it another chance.

-_- We all knew that one was coming.

I'm almost always playing normal, and I'll join in a HC server every now and then. Hardcore is... a lot easier in my opinion. And you can still bunny hop... dolphin dive.

Usually my experiences in a hardcore server involve me running around with a USP, or a Deag...

About the HUD, isn't the hit-indicator retained in HC?
I think it would have been a lot more logical to remove that instead of the crosshair, thus forcing people to aim instead of just waving the gun in the general direction of the target until the hit indicator starts to light up.
