Yes really. PR's gameplay is very different from vBf2's. Also, its better to have 200 players that use VOIP and know what they are doing instead of 2000 rambo players

Also, 170 players is actually more than enough.
If you played the old BF1942 mod Forgotten Hope then you are sure well going to play their second installation,

Please do not comparer BF2V to FH2, for one the gfx are much more impressive, there is actual team work, the sounds are better & the whole gameplay has improved.

It did indeed feel and play better than vBF2, but still, to me it was really similar.

In the end, it boils down to capturing flags in an open fielded environment. 200 players dont lie. Its not different enough from BF2 in order to gain players from BF2. The same problem with all other mods. I definitely take 200 players over 2000 provided they know how to play the game, but the game wouldnt keep me because of the limited social side to the gaming. Youll find that people are going back to vBF2 where all the "buddies" are, and since they arent losing anything by not playing the mods, its a fair trade.

Isnt anyone taking into account that the low player count is due to the fact that it is a weekday morning? Lets see the count at night and on the weekends. Im sure the numbers will increase dramatically.

Many here dismiss BF2 stats as not important and I agree to a large degree; however, I wonder, when given the chance to play some form of BF2 with stats versus a mod without stats, if many folks don't stick with vBF2 because of the ability to track/monitor their stats.

The gameplay is still really different. If you play PR the same way you play BF2, you will loose hard. Believe me..

"limited social side to the gaming"?? Whats more social, playing a game where most ppl have VOIP and are using it, or playing a game where everyone is running around doing his own little thing?

Yup, it gets better past 10 pm, wich is pretty much when i play anyway.

Its almost 8 mp here (Norway) and its now:

                PR - 419
                FH2 - 255

And yeah, stats are deffinately a factor here.

PR Has been out for a while now and is still the best mod IMO

FH2, was OK, but im not all for the WW2 thing, i bought BF2 to get away from BF1942, not ro run back

Theres no mod that plays likd BF2. Even POE2, basically a righted BF2, a polished and upgraded version of BF2, still plays differently. But as all mods, its still a flag capping fest, and PR is no different. And if the game is no different, then the transition from one to the other isnt going to be appealing, unless certain specific aspects are what you want. You dont see any mod with more than 1000 players today, because the difference between mods and BF2 is not great enough. Theres no clearly cut major difference that would cut the community directly into two competitive groups.

You misunderstood the concept. If Ive played BF2 for a year, and am solely playing with people I know, then Im not going to switch to a mod to play it alone, while my friends are playing vBF2.

Mods can't be successful cause of Stats (Ranked Servers)

Mods won't be successful if they continue to deviate from the BF2 engine and controls that vanilla players are already used to (Flying in FH2) for example.

The best one IMO is POE2...its lasted the longest so far even from a initial slow start.

Then get them to start playing that mod

Bells and whistles, bells and whistles. And then flag capping. The deviation from the standard vBF2 flag capping is miniscule. Whats changed is how you reach those flags. People dont see those changes as major enough to differenciate themselves from vBF2. Take it this way, if there was a sci-fi game for BF2 that played by a whole different set of rules (3000 years in the future with Klingon technology, game plays out by not capping flags, but by a frontline method, where you can spawn anywhere on your side of the front, and you occupy the frontline by killing enemy forces), then you would see a clearly different group departing BF2 for the sole reason of playing that Klingon fest. There are a lot of people like these playing various BF2 mods today, but there is no mod that has grabbed a substantial ammount of players to itsself. You could say that by the end of the day, thats just BF2 engines limitation. The worlds most popular mods today, Counter Strike and Natural Selection, clearly created a contrast between themselves and the main game.

If there are 200-400 players playing PR, then the public has spoken.

As for my buddies. I care not for PR, I find it to be a tedious game. My buddies dont care either. We like action.

Its been quite a long while since my last PR game. Unless the gameplay has changed drastically, and we have aliens killing humans with nukes strapped to babies, then in basics, its still a modern age flag capping shooter. You can twist it any way you want to, but theres a specific reason why there are 14000 players playing BF2, and only 1400 playing all of the mods combined. And stats arent it. At least not alone.

                            I'll have to agree.

Serious shame that AIX isn't played more, it's Vanilla but with 30% more PWN. Guns actually hit where you aim them, for starters.
