    Not So Good FPS?

I'm not sure if everyone has this problem, but it's kind of not good for me to see. When I play BF2, I get like 90-100 FPS running on high settings, 1280 x 1024, and AAx8.

Now, when I go to play BF2142, my FPS is like 65-75 running on medium settings, 1280 x 1024, and AAx4 (because it won't let me put it at x8 for some reason).

To me, I would guess that both games are pretty much the same except different models and maps and what not, so is there an explanation in the drop of FPS between the two games for me or does it happen for everyone?

On both games I play with around 40-60 people.

    I'm running Vista.

PC specs are in my sig.

It is not the game, apart from being buggy. It is possibly your hardware. Problem is more than likely with vista if not your graphics card. Vista still has issues.

But, how can Vista and/or my video card be having problems with BF2142 and not BF2? It makes no sense... and my video card is like not even a week old.

In that case, it might be drivers that don't recognize the game software which is incompatible with vista. There is a post here somewhere that has been updated for bf2142 to run on vista. Search for bf2142 on vista. That might be more helpful. Just be careful though, make sure it is the right one you are looking for before you change anything.

I found this post that might help with the search. Look for this post:

I made updated Vista BF2142.bat and BF2142.reg files

Don't know if it is the right one but it is a start.

1280 x 1024, and AAx4 (because it won't let me put it at x8 for some reason).

Same, although you have one of those special options.."1280x1024", I do not see that. I have to settle with 1024x768 when I would be more comfortable with 1280x1024. I only get 1280x960.

Also, I can only go up to 4x and not 8x. Everytime I bring up the scale, it bounces back to 4x, and then a message pops up (.......after restarting the game). I have the AGP Ati 9700 pro (256mb), and have decided to settle with 4x. My windows desktop default is at 8x. Do not understand when the windows desktop is at 8x and in game you have an option to bring it up to 8x. That is bringing the AA up twice.

Titan mode demands a lot more than conquest obviously.

On conquest I get around 70-90 FPS, titan about 50-70 on all high settings 8xAA 1152*864. 8xAA resets itself next time I restart the game so it seems it stays at 4x anyway.

I have a 8800 GTS 512 mb card though but I have a worse processor + less RAM than you so it sorta evens it out :p

I have noticed that BF2142 runs very differently on various computers even when they have the same specs though.

also depends if you got one hard disc or more example i got 3 hard discs one for windows programs that are needed one for fraps videos games and all other stuff, and one backup disc if something goes wrong my friend only has one disc where he has everything on.
Now i run conquest mode at 45-50 frames and titan at 25-30 frames while my mate runs conquest at 30 frames and titan at 20 frames so i guess more discs actually helps.

                    My System:

                    Amd Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ 2.2Ghz
                    2GB Ram (PC3200s 400mhz, Dual Channel)
AGP Ati X700Pro, 256mb (And not 9700...Sorry for the mislead...was early in the morning. I did have that card)
                    Samsung 712n, 17inch Flatscreen monitor.
160GB HD, 80GB HD (backup drive)
                    WinXP SP2
                    X-Fi SoundBlaster Card.

What is the key to find out the FPS? I do not know what mine is.

that's still a crappy card, so what sort of fps are you getting? i have a slightly better setup than you i think and the game runs like crap for me.

i have P4 3.2ghz/800, 2gb, agp x800 GTO, x-fi and i run it 1280x960 no AA and low-mid graphics and it's still sluggish as hell. even if i bump it down to 1024x768 and turn on 2xAA, i get almost identical frame rates so i just leave it at 1280x960.

Go to console and type in renderer.drawfps 1

Well I think it depends on the server. I mean on the WWC Suez server I get around 35FPS with everything on max @ 1280x1024 with 8xAA and 16xQAA(some new crap :p) with a Pentium Dual Core 3.2, 2 GB RAM, and an 8800GT.

But if I go on, say Timeless, I get around 20ish FPS. So don't always think it's your setup. It might be the server doesn't have a good T1 connection or something else...
