I still love this game but

Having played a few other games in the last few weeks Team Fortress 2 being the main one I come back to BF2142 and it is so choppy and laggy i know i will get a heap of replies saying you need to change this or that or this setting is wrong but compared to many other games it is. I am also aware that BF2142 does alot more vehicles map size etc etc but i am starting to think it either got rushed out before it was ready or EA Dice were too over enthusiastic with the feature set for the game.

I still love bf2142 no other game gives team play like it and no other game comes even close when it comes to freedom to play in your own style and not one game is as much fun.

While I am at it can EA or Dice nick some of the staff that run the steam system and pay them a lot of money to develop a similar thing for EA. When i start any steam game it has a quick check for updates if there are one it downloads it and installs it straight away. Becasue they are done often they are small and unobtrusive so you don't mind doing it not a 400mb chunk to wait for ( i dont have an uber 733t 10gb line so it takes a while on a 4mb connection) In addition to this if i am playing TF2 and a custom map is on rotation it downloads it and installs it. I nearly fainted when it did this I remeber my old clan having a custom map night once a week took bloody ages to set up. TF2 does it automatically.

Please don't flame me for this it's just other developers and publishers can make games that work. they arent as good as my beloved 2142 but they are good to play and they just work smoothly.

Do other people think Dice/ EA aimed too high with 2142.

That said i am loving the noobs that have joined since christmas who stand still on the flag all the time alowing me to pop slugs int here nugget from miles away

You're right. It's silly how DICE releases old-school patches via. one huge file. It makes updating slow and we have to wait for all these other things to be fixed until the patch comes out (remember how long 1.40 took?!) It'd be great if they had an in-game updater which delivers "micro-fixes" that repair small things like balance issues (which I'm sure are easy fixes). That way, we get all the small fixes earlier and those larger fixes/updates (eg. new map) are delivered later.

I, too, have been playing TF2 and was surprised and relieved at how smooth the game runs (in terms of the netcode). I really trust the game because what I see is exactly what is going on. In BF2142, I don't trust it as much because what you see is not always what's going on. eg. that guy standing there could actually be a couple meters closer to you, which is why he knifed you from >10m away! How annoying...

That is probably the biggest thing I want to see in BF3 - Automatic download and data implementation via the game client!

Unfortunately I dislike TF2, the gameplay does not suit me at all for some reason.

Many parts of this game makes it one of the best online FPS games out there, but in so many ways it's just so unsmooth and akward that I want to throw it in the trash.

My greatest wish is that they release 2142 vanilla for free on steam, fix it, and use more in-game adds to finance it. This would restore the battlefield name and attract millions of people to steam. All tough I know very well that's about as realistic as driving a bus driving to Mars, but it would be awesome

I understand that the netcode on bf2142 has to do a lot of work mroe than most games but perhaps they should make smaller maps for 32 players max to unclog some netcode issues.

I also wish that they would release more levels i for one would not object to playing a level that was sponsored by a company. Highway Tampa was sponsored but it wasnt intrusive. Get some company to stump up £10000 and bang a level out splash screens sponsored ingame adds etc i dont care aslong as new levels come out. How much can it cost to design one level once the game is done? If some 15 year old kid in his bedroom can knock up a level using a bf2 editor and blind luck then i am sure 2 full time dice employees could bang one a month out. They dont have to be jaw droppingly good maps just something new a bit of fun to give a fresh boost every couple of weeks. I dotn even mind if they are slightly buggy with exploits and stuff as if you dont like the map a new one will be out next month you can try that one. Also if these are "official" maps then they will be ranked and people who need to wave their E penis cans till do so.

              Dice are you listening.

I think it'd be easier if DICE just releases a map editor for BF2142 and makes a few well-made user maps 'official' every week or so. IIRC the good people at Blizzard did this many years ago and it nice visiting the official website every week to pick up a new map. edit; for starcraft

The problem with this is that afaik BF2142 lacks an in-game map distribution system. It would suck if you try to join your favourite server to only get a message saying "sorry you don't have this map. Get it from www.battlefield2142.com" as opposed to it automatically downloading and installing it.
