Conclusion: Vista 64 bit and BF2 work perfectly together (I have proof right next to me). No lag, smooth, nice graphics etc... Key words here: If you know how to set it up. Although, to be honest I did almost nothing to set it up, except get 2GB or RAM more to get rid of lag.:)

This is screenshots from vista64b fh2 with 16Af and 7AA in a 1689x1050 resolution!
As i mentioned VGA:3870 with 7.11 and 7.12 drivers.

My problem with vista (64) is this:
Whatever setting for AA and AF i choose for my ATI card (3870), it definitely doesn't show up in game. I mean the textures lines are definitely not Antialiased.
Tried
7.11 and 7.12 Catalyst drivers. Settings made through the video.con file as usual.

Same configuration, same drivers, same all.....produce as expected on XP.

Try using the Catalyst control center, put it up to 24X AA and you should notice.
no performance impact either, runs 99FPS constant even on 64/64 maps.

Ingame settings is useless, cause i have wide screen monitor and make the settings from the video.con file. BUT AS YOU SEE in the photos, no anti-aliasing occurs.
CAn you post what other settings you ve chosen in the CCC?
