    Dealing with those crazy FAVs.

I'm sure most of you have encountered enemies that a running amok in their cars where they are either:
    -Car bombing your armour.
    -Running your teammates down.
-Rushing past to cap a back point.
-Rushing to the main uncap to have a go at taking out commander assets.
-Rushing to somewhere to steal one of your unused vehicles.
-Just simply getting themselves somewhere where they become a nuisance to your team.

And you'd like to pop their little ride and put an end to their mischief.

You guys probably already know a few ways for dealing with this problem, so how about you guys share what you did or what you felt works best. Mention the map and where you got them.

For me, my favourite is EMP mine/Motion mine combo in tight maps like tunis, particularly on turns where them getting zapped will result in them slamming into a wall. But there are other possibilities you guys can bring up, vehicles, rdxes, machinegun, whatever.

Hmm....me..if the FAV is coming right at me, i try to shoot the driver, sometimes I get him, sometimes I don't. Helps if you have a sniper rifle...I've surprised a driver on many an occasion :P

Set down a trail of RDX, get to a safe area and BOOM.

      Merry-go-Rorsch :p

EMP nade + MG spay (yes I actually carry the EMP grenade on city maps, everyone else already has the IDS out)

machine gun spray i get, but do you have much luck hitting a speeding fav with your emp grenades?

I suppose if they are stationary and just using the machinegun on the fav, your emp grenades can freeze up its gun controls

-Stick your vehicle radar on your vehicle and put FAVs on the top of your "to kill first" list.
-listen for the sound of their engines (Unfortunately, you may need to listen hard since you may not actually hear them till they are too close)
-Use a vehicle that has a main weapon that fires fast projectiles (Walker main gun, APC driver machinegun)
-Conversely, tank main gun might have a hard time hitting a speeding FAV that isn't heading directly for them.

Works well if there is an enemy carbomber operating in the area

you are pretty much safe from machinegun fire in an FAV going at full speed as long as you don't expose your whole body. it really isn't easy aiming from the FAV gun at full speed especially since it has almost no splash.

on camp G get 1 recon to cover the main ramp, one to cover the hilly route. stick 2 packs of RDX on the floor in the path of the FAV about 6m away, one after the other so you have reaction time.

alternatively, EMP mines do a great job at killing FAV speed. and without speed, an FAV is nothing. sure EMPs slow/stop FAVs and allow MMs to catch up, but if you wanna save up your MMs for the walker, just use your main engy weapon. hell, just sprint up and use your SMG on the guys face in the car.

stopping carbombs as APC is easy. the EMP shot the driver has works just as well as an EMP mine. after that, back up a little and allow your gunner to kill em.

see an FAV run towards you? get behind cover if you're near any - even a lamppost will do. if you're in the middle of nowhere, the most reliable method is actually to stand and fight if you're assault/engy/recon. use PKs, AT missiles or RDX. if you're support, pray you have EMP grenades. if you're really desperate plop down a sentry gun/IPS. it won't block them, but it will slow them down a LITTLE.

if all else fails, you're in a sluggish vehicle and a carbomber is coming your way, and you know you ain't stopping him, get out of the vehicle, run, then gun him down while he's staring at the bottom of his screen waiting to see how many people he killed.

              last resort?

Camp G, I have a beginning of game plan as EU. I play as Engi with Pilum, Motion Mines and EMP Mines. Drop two Motion Mines near the flag, EMP Mine between the dragon teeth, EMP Mine near the water tank (you know, the off road ramp) and then just drop the rest of your motion mines there. Takes less than 30 Seconds to do. Hop into the Rorsch, and watch the fireworks! The FAVs will probably make it past the EMP Mines, only to fall prey to your Rorsch (which you have facing the Toll Station) The Walker will normally stay in the PAC base, but if it does decide to come up onto the Harbor it meets your motion mines/EMP Mines and Pilum.

Works 80% of the time, the other 20% one of the FAVs is moving so fast that when you hit it with the Rorsch it does no damage.

Well the RDX shotgun will kill the driver in one hit if you make the round land in his interior lol

It only works if you have warning that the FAV's coming (eg. UAV or spotting), or else you don't have time to even take out the EMP nades.

i personally prefer the RDX, as an experienced (kinda) FAV driver i know that if i get EMPed up the ramp on Camp G the FAV isn't gonna last very long so i jump right out and start shooting, and count on the other FAV to make it (since most times there aren't enough smart people on non-clan servers to cover all rush points).

RDX stops them dead in their tracks with minimal warning though. When the FAV is making its approach up the ramp they can't see the RDX/EMP on the floor if they're using first-person view, and its incredibly satisfying for me to see a fully loaded FAV fly up the ramp, machinegun blazing, only to blow up and stop right in its tracks. It's kinda cute in a sadistic way, and people in my squad sometimes laugh when they see it (:

Thats how its done. Exactly the way I play most of the EU CGibralter rounds nowadays.

Know thy enemy in a nutshell:
-Strengths: They are fast and agile
                            -Weakness: They are lightly armoured

So if you can take away their mobility, they become vulnerable. Plus if you have a hard hitting weapon ready, they will be burning wreckage quite easily.

So basically to get them we should have the following in mind:
                            -Where they want to go.
-The route they will take to get there.

For most tight infantry maps, there are only a few routes an FAV can take, and the linear nature of those maps give FAVs limited destinations worth going to, so that makes setting up a place for an ambush relatively easy. But for the wider open maps such as suez or verdun it would be much more difficult stop PAC from getting through and capping a point. Chokepoints and ideal locations for ambushes are much fewer plus there are too many holes to cover up. It would be a poor use of manpower to cover them all, spreading your team out too thin.

Best way at stopping FAVs on those maps is to send a gunship after them. They are fast enough to catch up and unload their arnament upon them. Unfortunately, that would mean you'd have to ignore enemy gunships for a while. Perhaps an air transport might be more suited for the role. They can at least keep up with them and have a gun powerful enough to do the damage.

On maps like Gibraltar or Tunis, an FAV can be a valuable commodity. In situations like these it is often best to try to remove the driver from play without damaging the vehicle itself, so it can be turned to your own ends (especially if an enemy is foolish enough to take it and roll alone). This is how I see the situation with regard to FAVs.

A sniper rifle, a Baur, or to a lesser extent any other weapon at all can work wonderfully for putting a couple rounds into the driver's head in either position. This solves the problem without excessively damaging the vehicle. A surgical strike is always the stronger tactical play than an all-out damage-fest, and keeping the FAV intact while killing the driver should ALWAYS be the preferable option.

However, against FAVs with multiple occupants, the gunner is always the first target, followed by the driver. If the FAV has three occupants it is often best to simply destroy it in the interest of removing the threat presented by not only the vehicle but three coordinated infantry. Against anything other than a full crew, however, your best bet is a precise strike to keep the vehicle intact and make use of it.

Be patient, look for a good angle, use cover and make it happen. Using the enemy's assets against him essentially doubles the amount of armour/vehicle pieces you are able to put in play at any given time.

If given a choice, however, between destroying the vehicle and losing a CP, always go for the former. Removing the occupants surgically is the preferable tactic, but not the only one, and no vehicle is worth losing a CP over.
