I remember one time in Gazala a Sherman saw me on the roadside leading to the British base (he was coming up the hill, I was walking down), so I ran around to the other side of some sandbags and went prone, hoping he would go past me. No such luck. Just as he came past the barricade, he pointed the barrel right at me, and while I was just a mouse click away from death, the tank just suddenly explodes, and I look up into the sky to see a BF109 fly away. That was ****ing epic.

BF2 has had its moments, too. I was happy with the hop-and-kill-at-your-feet n00b t00b nerf, but not the 'no shooting while jumping' nerf. I would rather they beefed up the skycow and Z-8 rather than neuter the BH. I hated their claymore 'fix', with no way to get around it as an enemy other than with a human sacrifice. All the movement restrictions have made the infantry combat feel clunky, and the insta-prone accuracy/action hero roll has always looked ridiculous to me. BF2142 is a step in the right direction infantry-wise (although IMO BF:V was BF infantry perfection, minus the ironsights), but there are way too many detection devices in BF2142...the minimap looks like a puddle in a rainstorm with all the ripples in it most of the time. The vehicles in BF2142 don't really excite me all that much, and the atmosphere gets boring after a while.

BF2 had great atmosphere, but the gameplay pisses me off sometimes.

BF1942 had not only great atmosphere, but diverse maps (desert, ocean, forest, snow, city), single player mode, fun, yet balanced, vehicles (planes could even be taken out with ground MG fire if they weren't careful), and just a really great feel to the whole system. Sure, the graphics are dated by today's standards, but the overall gameplay quality hasn't been surpassed in a BF game since.

Plus, for some reason, I just have an overall dislike for the all-seeing-eye commander in BF2/2142. No more taking a boat way out to the fringes of Wake to try to sneak in and cap an unguarded flag, because in BF2 you'll be spotted and artied before you even get it neutral if the enemy has a commander. Also, and I know I'll get lynched for saying this, I miss the old school medics, who didn't have revive (so no one uber-infantry class that can insta-self heal, revive, AND have a kickass gun), and rather a slow healing medpack.

A BF1942 remake with purtier graphics would rule, but then again I'd take a BF2 remake balanced in the same way as BF1942 was as well. 'Course for all we know the PC BF franchise ended with BF2142.

BF2142 has better infantry combat I think, I've played that significantly more than BF2. Now that I dislike FH2 I'll go back, I was expecting FH2 to have some intense infantry fire fights but it doesn't, squad play is no good unless you can have a second chance. If your squad is taken out in FH2, thats it, everyones gets bored and squad play is gone because you have to run about 6000 miles to meet up again. Too open and too OTT realistic for my tastes. I've had a shot gun go off right next to my face (barrel end - 12 gauge), my vision does not go blurry, my ears barely ring and I can keep full focus. If so much as a fly farts next to you in FH2 your toon has an epileptic fit.

I think people are getting too dellusional, games do not have to be realistic, this is precisely why they're called games.

Thats mosty done to prevent you from returning accurate fire when someone is shooting at you. Otherwise suppresive fire wouldnt be effective

Heh well a couple things I miss about BF2/BF2142 - one being the Q-commo rose (I hated that at first but now it feels awkward without it). Sprinting, and being able to spawn on a squad leader, or for that matter oeven HAVE a squad system. But yeah, I wish I had the chance to play 1942 back in its heyday, but at that time I didn't have a suitable internet connection. Still, what little I did play, plus all the time I played BF:V, was just awesome.

Suppressive fire is retarded in FH2, just as in PR. I`m not supposed to get a bloody concussion by passing bullets. Same with cannons. Some ear ringing and maybe a double-vision for a second would be nice, not this blur bs.
Scaring me with better and louder sounds with some scary effects like lots of dust kicking up would work much better. This blur thing is just annoying as hell and no way realistic.
They should atleast tone it down a lot, make it RO-like.

The effect doesnt last long at all... Atleast not in PR. I love that thing Makes ppl actually duck for cover when someone is firing a M249

And the graphics of BF......I used to play BF2 on low graphics settings, couple of days ago I switched to medium, I get a bit less FPS, but I'm astonished just how good and realistic this game looks.
I think I'd have to agree with you about the gameplay on COD 4, it frantic and although graphically good it doesn't compare to BF2's playability. I'll keep COD 4 installed in the hope that they'll release some large maps with playable vehicles.

I've just gpt myself a new pc, an Asus P5N-E SLI mobo (probably on the way out now), Quad Core Q6600, 4 gigs ram and an Nvidia 8500GT (not as good as the big boys), I can't get over how much better BF2 looks and plays.

                            .
They won`t unless it`s an expansion pack for which you have to pay (Another UO wouldn`t hurt, vehicles played a little role in that which was good) or CoD 5 which will prolly be consoles only.
CoD has always been an infantry only game at heart.

And at that, its inarguably the best one on the market, at the moment.
