Game Being All Jumpy.

Last Week I Started Playing 2142 Again.When I Get On The BattleField,Its Being All Jumpy I No Its Not Lag,Never Had Problem Like This Before.

I Have Update My Drivers 163.75

Have Anyone Have This Problem?

Hmm

I guess try the good old defrag/virus/spyware/maleware scans etc
(if you havent already)clean out your bf2 cache,if none of this helps,I myself would do a TOTAL uninstall clean out all traces of bf2 in the reg etc.

p.s-check background processes make sure nothing there is causing this issue.

Hi :) I really, really hope someone can help me with this - First I'll explain the issue, then try to give some information about my connection and whatnot.

What happens is that when I join a game in 2142, at first it runs fine, jerkiness free, lag free - you know, just great. But every 20-30 seconds or so, for about a 10 second period everything will go extremely jerky and unresponsive. This means when the guy runs around the corner at me, I don't have a chance in hell. So 10 seconds of that hernia-inducing frustration, and the game is back to running as smooth as you like... well for about 20 seconds before it messes up again.

This issue does not seem to be caused by anything graphically taxing for the computer. It's as likely to occur while I'm walking along alone as when I'm cowering away from an Orbital Strike.

My ping is always shown as being fine, always <50ms so I assume this isn't the problem.

So what then! The only thing that I could think of then is that my internet connection is somehow to blame. I'm in a house of 4 with 2mb Broardband between us. Most of the time I'm the only one online and I still encounter this infuriating problem. I'm also on wireless internet, if this could be the cause. It has never been a problem outside the game, signal is great and I have no problems downloading or surfing the internet at much better speeds than when I was at home and able to play the game perfectly.

I thought perhaps it was related to trying to play at peak times? It doesn't appear to be - Any time of the day I try, the same thing happens. BUT - There have been instances over the last weeks where I have been able to join games and play perfectly, jerkiness free - But these seem to occur at random!

Any suggestions? Or has anyone experienced this sort of issue elsewhere? Any help would be great thanks!

MisterFry, your problem is because you're on a wireless connection. Just because you see your ping as >50, it could skyrocket to 3000 between the 1s ping refresh. If possible, I think you should go to a hard line, or maybe a better wireless router or something...

As for the jerkiness though of the thread starter, not sure. For some reason, when I first start up the game and map, it's really jerky then eventually, after 5 min or so, it all evens out and all is well and it'll stay good.

Argh, I'm wired now and still the exact same issue. Plays fine in bursts, then really jumpy for a few seconds. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes it unplayale!

I managed to play one totally perfect jerk-free round though... I just don't get it.

Suffice to say good enough to run the damn game :)

I've played for hundreds of hours before on this machine without a problem - This issue has only been happening since I moved into this house 2 months ago. New internet connection, new router etc. As I said though, ping seems fine, connection is great and I've tried wiring directly rather than wireless and still the same problems.

As for things going on in the background, I havn't noticed anything unusual and Spyware/Adware/Virus scans don't pick anything up either.

I'm no power user - But I was thinking could it be a issue with the memory somehow? Like it only occurs at intervals, but very regular ones - As though it runs fine and then for a few seconds some other process kicks in for a couple of seconds. Could it be that the smooth-running cloggs up the memory and then it has to spend a few seconds clearing it... *shrugs* As I said, I probably sound like an idiot now.

It's seriously, seriously annoying me this though - If you guys can't help me, I'll reformat in the Christmas holiday and start anew :)

Could it somehow be a problem with the router...? Is this a known problem or something? Just seems so peculiar the it's not an on-or-off problem.
