Ive been a fan of the BF series ever since I saw an acquaintance playing Desert Combat for '42 back in the day. Have owned and played every BF since (excluding NS...). Whilst 2142 is to BF2 what 'Nam was to 1942, its still a heckuva fun game. And im looking forward to BF3 immensely... However, what id like to see, aside from more thorough bug testing and speedier patches (where possible, though I know this is a pretty vain hope for an online game) is...
Harder "levelling up" - I dont want to be the top rank after a couple of months. I want it to take me a LONG time to get promoted. Even the relatively tough BF2 was too fast for me. I'd like to play in a game where 80% of the players are Privates/PFC's, even after a year of release.
I'd like "training". Not only should promotions be used to obtain new weapons, but a single player training course passed too. Whilst it wouldnt prevent noobishness, it would train the uninitiated into the finer points of using a weapon properly (like, using right click can give aimed grenade throws, the PK rockets can have their detonation set, etc)
I'd like optional promotion. Perhaps being a Lt. would mean you *had* to be a squad leader, or Major, battalion commander, and a general the overall commander. Perhaps being enlisted (Pvt. Corp. Sgt.) would allow you to be a specialist (sniper, heavy weapons, etc), but limited tactical overview, which increased with rank... Thus, a General may only have a sidearm, but access to all the thrills of artillery, radar, in depth command, and so on.
A mid-rank (captain, for example) may have decent weapons, rifle/pistol/etc, but may also be able to issue some commands, more advanced than the current move/attack/defend - perhaps the option to use a "special power" like a supply drop (not just ask for it, but have one every 10 mins or something regardless of commander)
Id like even more effort on teamwork - I love how BF2 and 2142 have progressed this, and I hope it continues. Perhaps a "morale bonus" by being in a squad, or only being able to be healed/resupplied by squadmates.
Id like more game modes... Conquest and Titan are fun, but Titan wont work in BF3 and conquest is done to death. Id like capture the flag, scenarios...
...heck id like a campaign! This would be great for clans, and might encourage them being joined more. Instead of loadouts like Berlin > Cerbere > Gib > Tunis > Gib > Minsk > Gib, sorta thing... more like
If team 1 wins Gib, then map goes to Minsk, if team 2 wins, it goes to Cerb... or changes who defends/attacks. This could lead team 1 to the enemies "capital" if they win enough... winning a campaign would be a way to earn medals and so on.
Larger maps - ESPECIALLY when theres aircraft.
Soldiers more uniquely customizable - to do with what I said above. Earning medals/pins etc would give points. Points mean prizes. Use points to buy equipment and weapons (only X amount allowed at any point, so to get the defib you may have to remove the sniper rifle from your kit box). To use a weapon you must be proficient in it (pass training). Thus you could have a soldier with HMG, defib, C4 or Sniper, supply crate (limited), grenades...
Vehicle spawns dependent on population (at least as a server setting)... Being the only guy with no mech or tank on some maps blows... even as engi or RDX whore, the K/D isnt fun.
No TK punish. Being TK'd means insta-spawn at the uncap/furthest silo.
Revives only within 3(?) seconds of death. More "youve been killed" scenarios.
A basic training program that "unlocks" online play. "This is a knife. This is a pistol. Press space to jump. This vehicle can go faster by depressing shift." and so on. Make sure everyone knows the "basics".
More time on patching and free content, less on expansions (never happen i guess).
What would everyone else like/not like to see in BF3?
