    Hopes for BF3

Ive been a fan of the BF series ever since I saw an acquaintance playing Desert Combat for '42 back in the day. Have owned and played every BF since (excluding NS...). Whilst 2142 is to BF2 what 'Nam was to 1942, its still a heckuva fun game. And im looking forward to BF3 immensely... However, what id like to see, aside from more thorough bug testing and speedier patches (where possible, though I know this is a pretty vain hope for an online game) is...

Harder "levelling up" - I dont want to be the top rank after a couple of months. I want it to take me a LONG time to get promoted. Even the relatively tough BF2 was too fast for me. I'd like to play in a game where 80% of the players are Privates/PFC's, even after a year of release.

I'd like "training". Not only should promotions be used to obtain new weapons, but a single player training course passed too. Whilst it wouldnt prevent noobishness, it would train the uninitiated into the finer points of using a weapon properly (like, using right click can give aimed grenade throws, the PK rockets can have their detonation set, etc)

I'd like optional promotion. Perhaps being a Lt. would mean you *had* to be a squad leader, or Major, battalion commander, and a general the overall commander. Perhaps being enlisted (Pvt. Corp. Sgt.) would allow you to be a specialist (sniper, heavy weapons, etc), but limited tactical overview, which increased with rank... Thus, a General may only have a sidearm, but access to all the thrills of artillery, radar, in depth command, and so on.
A mid-rank (captain, for example) may have decent weapons, rifle/pistol/etc, but may also be able to issue some commands, more advanced than the current move/attack/defend - perhaps the option to use a "special power" like a supply drop (not just ask for it, but have one every 10 mins or something regardless of commander)

Id like even more effort on teamwork - I love how BF2 and 2142 have progressed this, and I hope it continues. Perhaps a "morale bonus" by being in a squad, or only being able to be healed/resupplied by squadmates.

Id like more game modes... Conquest and Titan are fun, but Titan wont work in BF3 and conquest is done to death. Id like capture the flag, scenarios...

...heck id like a campaign! This would be great for clans, and might encourage them being joined more. Instead of loadouts like Berlin > Cerbere > Gib > Tunis > Gib > Minsk > Gib, sorta thing... more like

If team 1 wins Gib, then map goes to Minsk, if team 2 wins, it goes to Cerb... or changes who defends/attacks. This could lead team 1 to the enemies "capital" if they win enough... winning a campaign would be a way to earn medals and so on.

Larger maps - ESPECIALLY when theres aircraft.

Soldiers more uniquely customizable - to do with what I said above. Earning medals/pins etc would give points. Points mean prizes. Use points to buy equipment and weapons (only X amount allowed at any point, so to get the defib you may have to remove the sniper rifle from your kit box). To use a weapon you must be proficient in it (pass training). Thus you could have a soldier with HMG, defib, C4 or Sniper, supply crate (limited), grenades...

Vehicle spawns dependent on population (at least as a server setting)... Being the only guy with no mech or tank on some maps blows... even as engi or RDX whore, the K/D isnt fun.

No TK punish. Being TK'd means insta-spawn at the uncap/furthest silo.

Revives only within 3(?) seconds of death. More "youve been killed" scenarios.

A basic training program that "unlocks" online play. "This is a knife. This is a pistol. Press space to jump. This vehicle can go faster by depressing shift." and so on. Make sure everyone knows the "basics".

More time on patching and free content, less on expansions (never happen i guess).

What would everyone else like/not like to see in BF3?

I surely would not want to see this:
No TK punish. Being TK'd means insta-spawn at the uncap/furthest silo.
It would be so annoying. But, instead of instant spawn, how about the TKiller to get + 1 death. Or make it +2 death - so everyone's going to be more careful throwing Grenades everywhere since it could actually destroy their K/D Ratio.
Also, customizable soldiers... I would like to see Clan Banners on the side of their arms, adding Badges, Medals, Ranks etc to their uniform so every soldier on the battlefield is somewhat unique.

      Makes Sense........but

You guys bring alot of good thoughts to the table but I am not sure EA would be inclined to design a game that was truly customer friendly. They are only after the quick bucks as they have always done so in the past. Not sure if this leopard ( EA ) can change its spots. Best of luck and keep on tryin....

believable movement and animations. Essentially get rid of anything like prone spamming, bunny hopping, or any sort of animation based glitches/exploits. People don't jump 5 feet in the air to get over obstacles, they climb or vault over them.

Can't agree with that at all. I've been playing steadily since the day 2142 came out, and I'm only NOW on the cusp of ranking to Brig. Gen. Of course, "steadily" for me is a relatively paltry trickle of time to a lot of players, but I'm pushing 40, 3 kids, wife, work, etc, so maybe that's my tough luck, but... I think the pace I've ranked up in 2142 has been nearly perfect. If ranking up in 2142 was as hard as you wanted it to be, I don't know that I'd still be playing and loving the game like I do now.

At least, not in a situation where the act of ranking up rewards me with unlocks like in 2142. If rank were just some show-boat fluff, then I wouldn't really care either way. But so long as rank=more equipment, I don't want it to be ratcheted up to a point where I never feel like I'm making any progress because I can put only so much time per week into playing.

            which is my point, kinda.

rank would mean more what rank means in real life - more options for strategic play. being a private/nco would allow better weapons and equipment (much like most armed forces)

so... ranking up would almost change the gameplay. so, perhaps i dont want ranking to be harder, just optional, so you can choose what sort of game you want to play...

You mean being able to choose from the start whether you are commissioned or enlisted and having different traits, equipment, and abilities depending on that? I dunno, seems like an interesting idea, but seems a bit of a stretch for the series unless the scale of the game is increased at least two-fold.

While I don't want it to take forever to level up, I would like it to be a little harder. Maybe take something from BF2, like some Award Requirements for a new rank.

I like the Supreme Commander Idea, EA just handled it poorly. I think it would be alot cooler if the top ten players would go up for some sort of "Election" in which all players who have an officer rank can vote on. Dude who gets the most votes becomes SC. That would help filter out the Stat Padders and nade spammers... I think. The idea is truly flawed, but I think that if someone with more brain cells than me would work on it they could get it to a working point :p

Anyway, you have some good ideas and some kinda weird ones. I don't like your rank ideas, but I do like your campaign, training camp, and game mode ideas.

I want to see Pilot's Licenses. Basically, to even sit in the pilot seat of a vehicle, you must have passed a training course on that vehicle...just like the licensing system in Gran Turismo. You don't get to drive the Formula 1s until you have the S license.

more stats would be great, and more options for tracking them.

older maps....EA would probably never consider doing it, but I'd like nothing more than a BF3 with Dragon Valley/Karkand/Fu She/Dalian/Cerbere/Belgrade/Berlin and Tunis in addition to all the new maps. That would be awesome.

                      Fully customizeable kits.
                      - One knife - pick one from a choice of several designs
                      - One sidearm - include real firearms (or knockoffs of): Glock, D.Eagle, Springfield, etc.
                      - One Rifle/MG/Launcher
                      - Two accessories. Any that you want. Example: Clark+Camo+MedHub = Close quarters powerhouse.

Vehicle drops must be brought back.

Voice recognition Squad Leader commands. Look at a flag base on-screen, hold "t", say "attack." Instead of Caps Lock, right click, scroll down, click "attack," get headshot by sniper. The current commo rose SL command system rarely works correctly.

Limitations on scoring. i.e. one player can only earn 5 points resupplying a particular teammate in a round. Or, an extension of the current system, whereby you cannot revive the same person more than once in a specified period and get points for it.

                      WIDESCREEN SUPPORT!

Nice wish list but here's what you're going to get:

A series of new ways to advertise products to you with a game wrapped around them.

Sad thing is, just like 2142, you'll buy it.

Will be funny to see people running around like NASCAR drivers with 'AMD' 'Intel' and 'Pizza Hut' logos on their uniforms. But then, by supporting this game that's what you asked for.

Nice, but make a Voice Recognition for every supported country. A Russian might have some difficulties getting the Recognition Software to recognize what he's talking about.
What about VOIP talking soldiers? Basically what we have now, but instead we can scream for a medic and everyone around you can hear you screaming and not the standard voice.

I have never had an ad ingame - other than the intel ones that are hard coded into Highway Tampa. I thought due to bad feedback they pretty much abandoned the idea. Although I have enabled a pretty simple block in my router to the ad server i would have thought if they really wanted to they would have circumvented that by now.
