So game is out, I want an answer who already has the game.

Is there an account system like in BF2? So we can have only one player per cd-key? Is ingame nickname limited to account username?

No account system you just make a profile and thats your name in-game, unless I'm missing something.

I'm wondering if when my gaming rig is back up in running would I have to start over when it comes to my perks, guns, ect.

You can cheat your rank (if its everything on your computer)
and
You loose everything when you reinstall the game

Thats what it looks like. I didn't set up a password just made a profile name.

It is NOT true and thank God! The only thing separating CoD4 from Crysis is that it has an online ranking system somewhat similar to the BF series.

Who cares you if you lose your ranks/unlocks/perks if you have to reinstall the game or have to reformate your computer, just don't worry about them and just play the game...

This MIGHT work, There's a folder called players in the main directory, and in that Profiles, in that is the various profiles. I was able to Copy delted and paste it back and the game didn't mind. Not sure about across installs, but I'll find that out soon.

It would kind of suck if you couldn't keep your current profile, especially after getting ranks, and having your stats wiped. The game definietly does a decent job of making lvl 1 and 30+ somewhat on level, but still it seem like a pretty basic thing at this point to be able to keep a profile.

It would be weird because of a) you loose ur data when u reinstall and b) u can just mod the file

I think the BF2 way on this part is better.

However, please no online stats checking, because that makes statswhores

lol, well rank doesnt matter anyway...you could just save the file to block notes and if you PC has a prob reinstall and swith the old file with the new one

Under your player profile, there is a file called "mpdata" (no extension.) If I had to guess, that's the important part. Personally, I'd just backup the whole "profiles" folder if you're going to reload/reinstall.

If it's "linked" to anything, it's probably your CD Key. The server would need a way to separate two players with the same name.

Some official confirmation on how this works would be nice though.

I got one big question, can you play with cdkey from torrent releases on original servers? I hope not. I don't wanna share my skill with stupid ppl who just download every game... i'll get it on friday.. cant wait.

So there can multiple people with the same name?

I highly doubt it is stored locally, there will be a server that validate your serial key (like CoD2) and a server that stores your ranks, using that serial key as identification.
